    Paladin - the lack of identity

    Disclaimer: This isn't a "PLD is gimp" thread.

    Dear SE,
    I've been both a PLD and WAR since 1.0.
    Both jobs were fun to play back then, especially WAR in Steel Cyclone SB Parties. It was one of the best aspects of 1.0, that didn't carry over to 2.0. Rampage and Berserk stance were probably the best aspects of 1.0.

    Moving along, this thread is about PLD and the aspects of it that are missing.
    Traditionally, PLDs have always been noble and righteous Knights that wear heavy armor with high resilience and fortitude AS WELL
    utilized white magic to their advantage.


    In FF XIV - PLD is feels pretty heavy sided on the "Fortitude, Armor, Resilience" and pretty bare and lacking on the "Magic".

    Gladiator, ironically, feels more like PLD than PLD does due to more cross class abilities and spells being available to it.

    Additionally, having only 1 real combo available as PLD isn't (which happens to be our hate generating combo) doesn't make the melee aspects of this job feel too exciting either.

    For a job that is, and always was, extremely popular and desired by the fan base, I feel that you haven't really given this job the attention and tweeking it deserves.

    I'm not saying it is not efficient or gimp. Its fine. Its just booooring. Please look into adding Magic and some melee that makes this job more interesting.

    I'd like to see more skills like Circle of Scorn, you know, those flashy skills that make me think of a paladin instead of just a butterknife stabber with a shield. I have both paladin and warrior and I like playing both; I like making healers' life easier as a paladin doing speed runs and such, but I like playing warrior more because there's more to it than 123 123 123.

    Gone are the days of casting Cure IV inbetween a HNM's attacks.

    I'm sorry, my friend, you'll be magicless. You may heal yourself for 200 if you so desire, though.

    If they gonna make Tank class with magic (both WHITE and BLACK)

    I think Mystick Knight is answer.

    They appear in FFIII (NES version) and able to use CURE up to level 3 (FF III)

    They bring up Cyrstal Tower from old FF game, if they really plan to add new Tank jobs, its Mystic Knight (probably Dark Knight but its 50/50)

    I feel similarly. It didn't have that WOW! feeling to it. As an old d&d gamer, Paladin's were a rare thing and always something of awe and grandeur.
    123 123 123. I was even chatting with my 8 year old daughter about the game while not looking, moving, etc, just 123, spirits, scorn, 123123123.
    I started up a Monk and at least I'm moving around.
    Side note also is almost everyone looks the same. They should have a little more variety. I think Relics should have been a little different. add a touch of variety to the quest, a different option to slightly tweak the weapons, maybe 2 more vit instead of parry, etc. Something to set apart.
    A random generated name like rares in Diablo would have been nice as well.
    The Fabled Curtana! That EVERYONE has.

    Apparently the translation in Japanese stands for "Knight" rather than Paladin. (Just quoting another forum member)

    Think they may have called it Paladin to attract the Final Fantasy fans to the role?

    I understand where others are coming from but I don't view the tank that way. I mean would it be nice to have something more interesting than....123, 123, 123, 123 maybe a scorn, flash, 123, 123, 123.

    But more I view the tank as a method of strict control. I'm ok with the class not being as creative because there are more things at stake. Making sure you manage your agro, managing adds that could be coming in. Raid boss - tank swapping, add retrivel, covering a healer getting pummelled, rotating CD's properly.

    I think that's why DPS classes get a more diverse and creative play structure.

    But thats just me. I'm also always been some who just plays it for what it is. Never really complained about a class.

    Yes, PLD could us something "cool" looking. ROH is kinda cool, but gets old. I want something like ROD that BRDs have. Now that's cool looking... However nerfed it has become.

    Really wish PLD had more healing magic. Cure I? Really?! Useless. At the very least, Cure II.

    You know it would be awesome if Shield Swipe wasn't a complete waste of TP and pacification actually worked on any boss. I mean hell if you don't want to let pacification work on a boss, CHANGE IT TO SOME OTHER DEBUFF.

    What a useless ability...

    Furthermore, It is really confusing in this game sometimes to be able to deduce the differences between a stun and a silence, For example, why do stuns work on some magical abilities where as silence against that same ability not work and vice versa.

    It isn't intuitive at all...

    I agree that the pacification is pretty pointless but an attack for 210 potency at 40TP? Not that useless. I never have hate issues so when this pops up I take advantage as it doesn't interrupt your combo.
