Help! How the heck do I make money in this game?

Well, gil generation in mind, my idea of "fast" money making is speedrunning WP. About 3-4k per person each run, minimum repairs, and materials sell for 3k (I know, not gil generated, but still it sells quite easily) you get 7k per 12 min, that's 35k per hour x however many people in your FC is. I don't think anything can top that for now..

It was common knowledge that 2.1 was going to make food last after you die. This was known in like the beginning of November. It is now January 9th. Pretty easy to figure out what is going to happen with the demand. It takes a whole 3 days max to level a craft to 50....1 day for culinarian or alchemist.

Isn't it funny when people point out the problems with the current economy, a certain defensive cluster of apologists flood the thread with, "dude you're lazy, I just made a bazillion gil by falling over...oops sorry I'd tell you how but then I'd have to kill you." Pfft

What's so secret about it? It's called analyzing the market and finding out what the high profit items are. They're out there, trust me. And every now and then the items change because *gasp* economies are cyclical in nature and ever evolving!

But...y'know...reading things, thinking for yourself, and putting forth the effort to make it happen...bo~oring... (and that isn't directed at the OP)

If its not as simple as queing into the duty finder than it is hard or it doesn't exist.

Crafting is dead ??

I'm currently leveling up my WHM as an alt. I'm at level 38. Yesterday I decided to go to the market board to upgrade gear as a lot of my gear was in the 20s and it just doesn't seem to be dropping in the dungeons.. So searching for armor, there are so many 0's across from the names of items. Nobody is crafting them. If they were there I might buy them.

Crafting is not dead. People just aren't looking to see whats needed.

If you're looking on the MB for alt gear, you're doing it wrong.

FATEs don't require gear to complete.
Dungeons provide adequate gear for leveling.
Grand Company gear is more than enough to level with.
White gear from quests/vendors is adequate and generally cheaper. They also serve as a price ceiling for any gear made by crafters.
Any gear you get is replaced within hours/days because leveling is a joke.

The only reason to collect the low level gear is for vanity reasons.

Best ways to make gil are running dungeons and doing dailies. Crafting does not make you gil, it costs you time and gil. There are plenty of crafters on each server with all crafts at 50 with all their cross class skills to guarantee HQ. Unless you're ready to commit to that, you should just abandon leveling professions.

edit: oh yeah, Primal sale runs always work if you have the gear/skill/experience.

Yeah man, imagine you have an FC consisting of 12 people and running WP.. You generate 1200 philosophy and 4000 gil every run. In one run, that's 48000 gil. In one hour, that's 240.000 gil, in 20 hours you'd have made 5 millions! Now repeat that for another 100 hours and you get yourself a nice medium house, except if you're legacy..

Lol. I'm not asking for sympathy, what I'm saying is your 'lvl cul to 50, I make money derp' is awfully dumb advice when its almost past its prime as *the* moneymaker. And I was trying to point out that the 'just level crafts' 'advice' is 60% of the reason why the crafting economy is crap at this moment in time.

@OP I'll say just don't worry about gil, there's not much for it anyway other than leveling crafts/housing/i70 junk. Unless you want to play 'watch the mb for hours on end', which I sure as hell don't, I'd rather be killing dragons.
