Here's the best way to make big money.
1) Get in a good fc
2) Mastered all the end game content
3)Spam carries all day long.
I assume the FCs with the biggest houses are using this method.

Well the supply went up since Karaku now drop alot more fleece. Supply and demand. Don't sell products where soon there will be a flood of supply, ie crafting mats. You have a weaver, made HQ gear it sells very well.So last week I was like hey, I should be able to turn a decent profit by selling stacks of Woolen yarn. At the time they were going for like 230 ea. now ive been undercut so many times that its not worth trying anymore. Today a stack of woolen yarn goes for 149 ea. Even with all crafts maxed most gear isnt profitable enough to bother making and you cant sell philo for anything wither. I am absolutely stumped, other than random tips I make for melding, I can't make jack squat.
Crafting is dead ??
I'm currently leveling up my WHM as an alt. I'm at level 38. Yesterday I decided to go to the market board to upgrade gear as a lot of my gear was in the 20s and it just doesn't seem to be dropping in the dungeons.. So searching for armor, there are so many 0's across from the names of items. Nobody is crafting them. If they were there I might buy them.
Crafting is not dead. People just aren't looking to see whats needed.
I stopped crafting after level 20 because it seemed to be a time and gil drain (not to mention the inventory problems ;_; ). I'm wondering, do y'all take the time to gather ALL mats and shards for crafting on your own or do you buy them? Have you figured out how much gil is earned against mat cost/time taken to gather mats/time spent running from levequest giver to receiver (compared to gil earned from running dungeons since 2.1)? Stuff like that? I'm not good at mathing it out. ^^;
I don't care about housing and I hate all forms of PvE. I'm too lazy to gather (note my DoL jobs) and the only aspects of the game I enjoy are PvP and crafting. I've got all eight crafts at 50 with stat capped gear and all my PvP gear is penta melded. Hell, I even have 6/8 crafting luminaries and I'm not even legacy.
Wtf would I hoard money for? I don't need it for consumables because I make my own. I don't need to pay people to make or meld gear because I do it myself. Literally my only expenses are materia for new PvP gear and ingredients that I refuse to gather. When I buy a new PvP piece I'll spend an hour or so making enough money to load it up with materia and then go back to PvPing.
I posted similar info earlier. I can gather all my mats with my 42 botanist.
Day 1 I would spend roughly 2 hours gathering all the mats to make the top 4 raid foods.
Day 2 I would spend about 2 hrs crafting about 2 stacks of food, sometimes more
Profit of about 300k-400k
I only buy shards and Apkullu eggs (bots do a good job at keeping these prices low)
I get all my fish from an FC mate with 1:3 ratio on food. Sometimes I give him a better deal because we are in the same coil static
My best suggestion would have to leveling up a dol namely botanist or miner. If you have plenty of leve allowances saved up then it'll be better. It took me a few days to level my botanist to 50.
Check the mb to see whats selling. You'll make a profit either way since you don't have to buy mats to make stuff.
Another tip would be refining those mats. Ex:botany+carpenter= lumber or miner+armorer=ingot
For the most part mats sell at a higher rate than the finished product
I guess the "crafting is dead" really means "crafting doesn't make a buttload of gil like it used to". I bought all of my equips for my Culinarian and will continue to do so. HQ when I can find it. I've gone broke buying armor for 3-5k each piece. Someone's making my money, so it can't be but so dead! I've also been too lazy to level botanist, so I buy most of the materials I cook with. Someone's making that money too!
Yes, the undercutting sucks. But we all do it. And if you check back at certain times of the day, the lower priced items are all bought up and you can list you next batch at a more reasonable price. Or just list a normal price in the beginning and people will eventually have no choice but to buy yours after the cheap ones run out. I've seen this time and time again with Knights Bread; One minute it's at 130 and later in the day it's 400.
Are you likely to make a million gil in a day? Nope. But things do add up over time. Look at the big picture. Analogy: You make $11 a hour. That's a yearly income of $22,880. You get a 50 cent raise. Doesn't look like much. But at $11.50 a hour, that's a yearly income of $23,920.
Yes and when everyone and their brother has CUL leveled because its currently the best way to make gil from crafting, how much do you think you'll be making then? If I tried to level it now by the time I reach 50 all the stuff worth selling will be undercut to almost less than mat price.
Just like every other 'flavor of the month' craft.

You can make plenty of gil crafting but sitting at your retainer all day fighting undercutters isn't enjoyable
