Help!! My gear level is stuck?!

Okay so obviously I'm not getting something everybody else is. I'm lvl 44 MRD and I switched my gear from lvl 41 to 44 from head to toe. Previously my lowest piece was around 29 an now I think it's 39.

The problem I'm having is during the past 10 levels my gear level has been stuck at 28.
This is the 3rd gear upgrade I've done but the gear level hasn't budged. What am I not getting here?

I don't have anything equipped in my secondary weapon slot, can/should I put something there? Is this normal?

Hmm. I noticed something similar after the patch. My gear level was stuck/not updating. What worked for me was deleting the gear set and setting it as a new set. I'm not sure how exactly what happened, but the default setting now shows the iLv of the gear set instead of the weapon level like it used to show. You don't have to unequip anything, just delete the gear set and create a new one, see if that works.

Are you talking about the gear level in the window that shows your actual character, or the gear level in your list of gear sets?

The first should be updating fine, and if it isn't, submit a bug report. The gear set names do not automatically update the gear level; they have to be reset manually.

Are you wearing aetherial gear from dungeons? I seem to have the same issue on MNK where I have exchanged a good portion of my gear for aetherial pieces of much higher ilvl but see no change in my average ilvl. I'm thinking aetherial items may not be reflected in the average or the items/ilvl avg is bugged.

I'd venture a guess and say they aren't counted since realistically the only time ilvl really starts to matter is for end game content and then you won't (or shouldn't) be using aetherial dungeon gear. The implementation of ilvl requirements for content and party finder seem to support this.

Thanks I'll try the manual update thing when I log on I'll let you know how it goes. The number not updating is in the character screen. I just tried downgrading my axe to lvl 5 too but even that had no effect.

They do, actually. Only before they followed the convention JOB(Lv.xx) where the xx that would get updated reflected the level of your weapon in the set. Now it's JOB(Item Lv.xx) where it's your average item level rather than just that of your weapon. All you have to do to get it auto-updating again is to delete and re-save the offending gearset(s).

There's something since the 2.1 patch where the actual gearset name doesn't update like it used to. I played a Lancer from 20 to the 40s while constantly changing out my weapon (what the gearset name was originally based off of) and my Gearset name remained LNC (Lv. 20) or whatever. Eventually I just renamed the gearset names myself to just reflect the job in which the gearset is for.

If your item level isn't increasing after getting substantially better gear (it's displayed in two spots in the char screen) then that's an issue. Minor upgrades don't seem to make an impact though. For example, I upgraded my Bard out of the Darklight Gloves for the Ballad Gloves out of CT and my ilvl didn't budge at all.
