I think a big thing that people forget is that it's most likely not server lag unless everyone in your group is getting hit by the exact same thing. I continually tell ppl on pc to turn down their graphics on those fights and 9 times out of 10 they tell me it worked. I understand that on a ps3 you don't have the same option to do so, only thing i can say/guess is that an older ps3 is probably gonna have a harder time keeping up w/ it compared to a newer one. Just in the same way you could have 2 computers w/ exactly the same insides, but one w/ brand new parts is gonna keep up better w/ one that has been chugging along for 5,6,7+ years. Not saying OP has an old one, just a generalization if some ps3 users have said problem and others dont. PS3 is just a computer when it boils down to it. I guess only thing I could recommend on ps3 is try to delete or backup old unused programs/videos/games to let up the load on your hd and hope it functions better the same as you would on a pc.

i want to give my 2 cents from a healer perspective.

ive noticed during garuda ex and titan ex that other healers react much faster to damage the party takes, while i obviously cannot react to something that hasnt even displayed on my monitor yet. throwing heals after stomps and when he jumps is the easy part since theyre scripted, but its much harder to react to people getting randomly caught.
also, the ps3 user interface is just cumbersome in that you have to select your target with up and down through a list, sometimes it's the half of a second for selecting that counts - not mentioning you still have to dodge everything. it wasn't so obvious during easier content, but with an error margin of basically zero i might as well have reached a brick wall with how much i can get out of the controller interface.

the framerate also hit absolute rock bottom during the tornado phase in garuda ex when the tanks split for garuda's adds. probably around 10 fps with all effects disabled. to the server/isp lag you also get INPUT lag. it's just a horrifying experience and one of the major reasons i want to upgrade to ps4 asap.

only disadvantage from ps3 is the difficulty of running and casting instant spells compared to keyboard/mouse (solved if you plug in a keyboard and mouse..)

occasional spikes would happen on pc too, i use both its just your connection missing received packets

I do in fact have the old PS3 mothership for the backwards compatability. Good point, maybe i'll try to clear space and see if it can be upgraded relatively easily and cheaply, otherwise jus gotta wait til I can utilize my ps4 collecting dust.
