I'm not talking about the size of the model, or choice in using a more "elemental" looking pet.

I simply mean, look at the minions in this game, now look at the Egis. they have low poly counts and very little texture.

Yoshi also stated the PS3 version was designed to show 24 PT members. What happens if you just so happen to have all SMN for DPS and SCH for healers?

They lowered the poly count and texture for a reason.

Im sure they would keep the "small pet" look for them, but would add more texture if they could.

Hopefully the DX11 update will allow for some textures on them/minions.

My only complaint of the Summoner pets is that Titan should have legs and be walking on the ground behind me. Doesn't make much sense to me that he flies.

On Topic: That is awesome looking OP.

The Egi are seen as "Spirits"

You are summoning them in spirit, rather than their physical form. (And like the Bogy enemies, they still take dmg from physical stuff, and do physical dmg with melee attacks.)

And a lot of people see ghosts as floating beings.

I don't get what all the Summoner hate is coming from. I played XI, I saw Summoners in that game, they were nifty (I didn't play one). Yet, I enjoy the hell out of my Summoner in XIV. It's my Main job (until Dark Knight is released). I think the egis work perfectly with the game's mechanics and lore. This is not XI-2 people. Good or bad in thinking that it should be, does nothing to hinder the awesomeness that is the current Summoner. Now, on the other hand - perhaps future Egis (Shiva, Ramuh, Leviathan) will provide us with slightly larger Egi models (after the level cap increase, of course).

But I really don't feel we need Egi's that are as large as the primals themselves. I mean, really. We are not summoning the actual Primal, and are infact summoning a portion of the Primal's power. So, current Egi sizes make sense both lore-wise and game mechanic-wise. I have enough on my screen as is. I don't need a freaking boss sized summon blocking up my screen just so I can look even more badass.

Now, all that said and done; I actually do like the OP's reworked Ifrit Egi, given that it is either the same size as the current Ifrit Egi, or only very slightly larger.

People seem to be clamoring to older FF titles when it comes to the Summoner, most particularly FFXI. This is not that/those games, this is FFXIV and it is different whether you like it or not, get the heck used to it. This is Summoner, and it is fine.

In Final Fantasy XI Summoner summoned only a portion of the Avatars power but they still retained the look and abilities of the true avatar

Wow, responding to a year+ old post. Uh, okay.

Yeah, maybe. I never personally played a Summoner in XI, but I am aware they actually made pacts with each avatar after defeating them. Now I don't know what the Smn quests involved but it seems like they summoned the actual avatar itself, not just a fraction of it's power. It also seems like they befriended the avatars in XI.

Now XIV is a completely different game. We don't make pacts with the Primals, we don't befriend them. We are basically stealing their power for ourselves and using a fraction of the power because we're playing a constant tug of war with the primal for their power. Not to mention if we summoned the full primal that would totally eff up the lore in the realm because it requires a ton of crystals and prayer just to summon a Primal. There's no way one adventurer without doing any of that could just summon a full on primal, but a smaller portion of the primals power, well that's doable.

At least that's how I see it. Either way, a year+ later Summoner is still great dps and I enjoy being one.

I got the impression from the Summoner quests that we are basically doing the same summoning ritual that the beast tribes do but instead of using heaps of crystals we use renewable naturally aspected aether (hence traveling to specific locations) to create a much weaker version that we can beat up and control.

I didn't see it so much as a power struggle with the primal, more that if we created a stronger primal we'd probably damage the environment and lose control of it.

Either way I can only see big summons that do mega damage with super flashy attacks working both mechanically and in the lore as Limit Breaks. (I'd still like better Enkindle though.)

....SO where is the rework in this?
It's just a higher resolution. Nothing else is changed.
