I've been lurking in this thread, but haven't really posted anything (other to debunk Kilta's delusional arguments that WoW's AH is somehow slower than using FFXIV's MW).

I've watched the market wards evolve since beta. And though they've gone from being incredibly frustrating (manually searching each retainer for an hour just to find one item) to now being okay, I still think there's some big room for improvement.

Oddly, when the servers were still experiencing game-breaking lag, the only thing I liked about the wards were that they were a place I could go and craft in peace with minimal lag (it's very frustrating to break a synth because the interface isn't cooperating). At the same time, I was afraid to spend too much time there because if you were in the ward during a crash, or sometimes if you logged out there, you were stuck. I'm not sure if this is still an issue or not.

As I've said in previous posts, one of my favorite things to do in MMOs is to play the AH. In and of itself it's like a mini-game to me. But the fun lies within browsing items, checking prices, posting and ease of purchase/retrieval.

I've read suggestions that perhaps this system was set up in the first place not just to deter RMT or create immersion, but perhaps for grander purposes. Maybe a sanctioned bazaar area so people don't afk in town (perhaps reduced taxes as an incentive). Or other things. This is really the only case I can support the idea of the MW.

If they are the keep the wards, these things need to happen:

    * A dedicated, stable server just for the wards. No more retainer limits. No more crashing.
    * An item search field where you type in the name of what you're looking for. No more searching through categories.
    * A 'front desk' manager that will 'hand deliver' your item to you for a slight fee (ie instant delivery). Those who like walking to the retainer and picking it up themselves can still do so for free.
    * Connected wards, to help encourage players to be in places other than Ul'dah. I get tired of teleporting to Ul'dah every time I need to put items up on my retainer because my items won't sell in Gridania.
    * Change the name of the wards on the map. I can't tell you how many times I've had to help newbies trying to find the wards in Limsa Lominsa. Would you logically think 'Southern Islands' is a place to set up shop? Please, can't we just call it 'Market Ward'?

Otherwise, I'm going to have to go with WoW-style auction house. With a search field, easy to navigate categories, bid and/or buyout button, and quick delivery. I think someone said it best when it was pointed out that enjoyability shouldn't take a backseat to immersion.

So really stop complaining guys for no AH. Nothing was instant in Any AH. you still had menue loads, bidding /buying loads or checking mail boxes and reading leters to get your item.

There is nothing wrong with the wards and are pretty easy to use srop complaining about walking to a retainer that is a beyond stupid complaint. The idea in mmorpg is infact to role play and part of that is walking around and visiting shops.
and still far more time racking up 3,000+! post.
More than all the time spent in mw and ah.

People still don't know enough to avoid Kita?

Anyway, the wards do need to go, even upping the retainer limit won't save them.

It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. And it absolutely will not stop. Ever.

You are a god damn liar.
    Exactly.
The only way you spent that much time shopping is because you wanted to.
I've had AH trips just window shopping or strategy shopping where it may have taken a while but was actually enjoyable, not because you had aweful system to fight with to find what you need.
So what she said was complete load of crap....

It's not that I love WOW over FFXIV or anything; I actually dislike what it became after Burning Crusade and I stopped playing it seriously since.

It's that I can take a step back and look at what it does correctly . And I can compare MMOs between themselves objectively because I don't place any extra emotional investment or any extra loyalty into an MMO or developer because they used to deliver me good games. If X game has a feature that would directly benefit FFXIV, damn right I'm going to suggest it.

This. Should be done with everything in life. Not just video games. Learn from history.

lol why are some of you blaming the players for all congregating in Uldah? If that's where all the action is, that's because the game is so badly designed that it is in all players' best interest to stay in Uldah.

Don't blame the players for actually wanting to socialize and interact with other people in an MMO. Blame the devs for bad designing that forced the players to behave in that manner.

Exactly, the game forces you to Ul'dah as they got lazy with the story line and merged them all there at rank 20. Then you have a city with a simple layout and quick access between the 3 key areas, Wards, Leve counter and repair NPC. Then add to the fact you can easily go from 1-50 there and and it has the best Leves and it's easy to see why Ul'dah has become the central hub for the game so quickly.
