lol lets go back to paper and pencil........while playing a mmorpg using a computer in 2011.................oh yeah!/echo item name 1, item name 2, item name 3
Run 5 feet to check price for item 1
Press spacebar
Press up
Enter price after item name.
Repeat. It's like a pen and paper without having to look away from the screen. Pretty much with /echo and the market ward search system it works pretty similarly to an AH. Not that I'm not all for an AH, I do think it would be easier and less strain on the servers, but the MW system is definitely not as flawed as some of the people in this thread seem to think it is.
MW SUCKS period

In all fairness, for at least some of us, the CE came with that journal thing to supplement the MW system, just didn't come with a complimentary pencil.. cheap...
Also as a minor supplement to the discussion. The term "AH" does not need to mean "FFXI's AH" or "WoW's AH". The AH is what they make of it and if it were a little closer to EVE's AH or something totally different it might not come with the problems the other ones had. And no, the MW is not a re-imagining of the AH system. If it is, I'd like to know what they were smoking when they thought it was a good substitute.

Not enough MW hate threads! Cmon, slackers!
What a ridiculous train of thought. People don't like a really clunky feature, so they should just quit? Have you SEEN this game? Did you pay any attention when thousands of people quit because they didn't like more than one feature? Your kind of mentality is pretty much going to get the game killed, but I've come to expect that sort of crap on the forums here.If it's so bad, then why don't you quit? Pretty sure, you'll be one of those people raging and bitching all the time about how horrible the game is, but will continue to play the game endlessly for the next 10 years of their life or so.
It's about wanting to log on, have fun, and log off.
Having to spend LITERALLY 30 MINUTES using that clunky system to buy a new set of gear and sell a couple of old pieces isn't fun. On a work night thats half of my usual play time gone, for the sake of an utterly stupid market system that literally brings nothing to the game.
God, the purists on these forums are just ridiculous. Just because you have time to play a good 7 hours a day and enjoy the horrible inefficiencies of this game doesn't mean it's right.
There's no way in hell they're going to attract new customers while the game has such crappy systems in place. Remember when a good few 100k people quit the game in a month because of this shit? Yeah that was a great time.

I really don't care if it's called Market Wards or Auction House.
My concerns are this:
1. I have to zone to enter the MW, which means a loading screen and then get out when I'm done there, so another loading screen.
It feels contradictory putting efforts and money trying to design a game with wide open areas without any loading screen and design a zoned market system which is something used by players on a daily basis.
2. I need to move between each sub zone inside the MW to buy items.
3. If I want to sell something I usually check first other player's price on that item. So that means another run to the exit door, check price, get back to my retainer, sell item.
4. The place itself looks chaotic. I mean, all kind of characters facing to every possible direction, and most of them not loading on your screen until you take a step forward or backward.
5. Endless menus and sub menus with overcomplicated names and glossaries to find anything.
So, what I mean, I don't care if its called Market Wards or Auction House, but I want it simple and fast. As it is designed I spend x3 or x4 the time needed on FFXI to sell or buy an item.
Auction House in FFXI was simple and fast, you could buy or just check anything with 4 clicks and that's the way it should work here.
Keep it simple, keep it clear and call it whatever you want to.

I just wanna say I'm not for or against an AH. If the Devs came out tomorrow and said they're bringing an AH because it would be easy to do or they listened to the fans, that would be OK. I'm for whatever takes the least time to implement under the current system and if they can make the idea I posted happen faster than the time it takes to develop an AH, then do it. If it's faster to do an AH, then do it.

- Add the ability to purchase items directly from the item search counter.
- Allow players to search for items from any retainer's bell
That's practically an AH right there, but without any sort of history of sales.
The time that passes from when you find the item you're looking for in the Search Counter to the time when you actually buy it in front of the retainer = Time Wasted
If you don't want to add the AH, at least give a "purchase" button next to search counter results.
I think the market wards are just fine though I know there's still a few features missing that would make searching better and we need an option to hide retainers that aren't selling what we're currently searching for.
However I do think an AH and the wards can co-exist with the AH selling more common items and allowing the wards to cater in more specialised sales and purchases. Or the dev team should probably just open up the AH in LL and keep Uldah as the main market ward city as it is currently. Lominsa does seem the type of city that would support an AH whilst Uldah is more of a merchant driven city. I'm not sure what Gridania would be like. Maybe a cross between the two. However having a different system in each city might help to spread the player population out alittle better as they start to decide what suits their needs. And anima costs between cities is cheap so there shouldn't be travel issues.

This sh*t again...
You have the Market Wards.
You have the Item Search feature.
That's ENOUGH for everyone who wants an "Auction House". Are you telling me that going into the right ward and finding the retainer is a pain in the neck? Well duh, it's a motherloving Market Ward. So that means to go to the vendor and buy sh*t from him. And for finding the retainer being a problem... follow the gigantic red star and the red dot on the map?
If you really wanted a little ease to better the Market Wards, they could implement a thing in the Item Search feature where when listed the retainers you can select one and port in its ward/before its feet.
And by the way, if you want an Auction House, you want an Auction House, which means placing bids and concurring with other players, not just lolbuy. Check eBay for example.
