    Altoholics: experience and wishes?

    So any altoholics around?

In beta already I had two equally developed characters, and in launch week, I had 5. Midlander(F), Highlander(M), Lalafell(F), Miqo'te(F) and Roegadyn(M).

Deleted the Roegadyn at level 16 because I couldn't take their slow motion movements. I realize it's for game balance reasons, but they seriously just look so slow, nothing of the strong, powerful warrior type I envisioned. (And I can't stand Roegadyn male in the WHM AF...)

Then deleted the Lalafell at level 24 because, again, I couldn't stand their fast paced movements. It's just unnatural and the way they walk, waving their hands like they can't keep their hands down by their sides, was a big put off for me.

Miqo'te I had for a while longer, but her lack of butt and the ears protruding out of absolutely everything was finally getting to me. In my opinion those ears are seriously destroying the outlines of a lot of head gear. Deleted her at level 50, with all crafts at level 30, too. The fact that Fantasia should be available in future again was also an important factor in my decision. If I really crave a Miqo'te again, I can just make my midlander(F) into miqo'te(F) anyway.

Now I'm down to the midlander and highlander, both full DL with Relic, both not yet set foot in BC. With the 2.1 dailies and the 450 myth cap, I'm finding it unrealistic for me to keep both up. In fact I've missed the myth cap for quite a few weeks due to real life; some nights I just don't feel like any games and that was that.

Now I want to just make my highlander the main, but can't let go of the midlander. The whole reason I made her was because she just looked absolutely stunning in all the AF gear during character creation, and I basically made her so I can have those in game as well.

Doing 6 dailies plus 1 high level roulette takes about 45 mintes to 1 hour. That's 1.5-2 hours per night for 2 characters even without attempting any end-game content. No CT, no BC, no primals...repeating everything one extra time per day, too. In total I'd be locking myself into at least 12 hours of chore per week.

Now I'm seriously thinking just letting go of the midlander but I still wanna see her in all the AF gear. Call me hentai if you want, but that's really the biggest reason I'm hanging on to her right now.

Of course Fantasia can change gender, but then all the season gear won't work. Not to mention if Fantasia won't be easily acquirable, I'd end up with seasonal gear for different gender and that really messes things up. If the seasonal gear were like AF and other gear where the same piece shows differently on male and on female, I'd probably just work on my highlander now. The seasonal gear is really the last real obstacle for not letting go of the midlander.

So any altoholics around and what's your experience? What are you doing about all your characters now with 2.1? What's the 3 most important changes you'd like to see in FFXIV that will make it easier for you?

For me, the top 3 will be:
    1. Make all hard-to-acquire gear (i.e. seasonal gear/lightning outfit etc) gender-neutral, just make them show different models depending on character gender
    2. Announce a clear way/schedule for acquiring more Fantasia
    3. Allow our alts to enter/use/manage our personal housing!

I have one alt - my legacy character. I recently changed her from Highlander F to Roegadyn F. Now I have two Roes!

I agree that the biggest help would be a centralised storage place. The only reason my alt still exists really is because she's got all my legacy gear, including a tarantula I found in a bush in 1.0 Bloodshore.

I'm another kind of altoholic (leveled all jobs) but i really don't understand the need to have a second or third character. Is it to have more storage space?
From my point of view, leveling everything on one character grants way more perks, starting with cross-skills.

I agree with this. I am and have always been an altaholic, but this is the first game I can do it while only having one main character. So far, I have a Warrior in mostly Myth with his Relic, a Dragoon in full Darklight with his Relic and then my Paladin, with the CT chest/hands/boots with his relic. I'm thinking about leveling a WHM or SCH next and I love that I don't have to create a new character and go through the story again to do it.

Personally, I'd love a centralized storage space and the ability to befriend/mail your alts!

I love creating different characters - as a roleplayer. I enjoy the different looks and I love coming up with outfits that suit them and stories about them. I also enjoy replaying the quests since I'm into the lore. I play all of them differently - I'm levelling one exclusively with a group of friends - another one, completely solo as she's a lone wanderer- another one in permadeath mode - and so on. ^^

Until very recently, this was in the game as people found a way to do so using instances (it would show your characters as online if you logged out inside). They've since nerfed it, because YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY WITH YOURSELF.

We could do it in FFXI, a lot of people had "mules", I had one. It let me sell more stuff when I needed to and gave me extra storage. Hell, they eventually made it so we could send our Rare/EX equipment to them (but not to other players). The characters are on the same account and I wish I could send some stuff to one of my alts. I know XIV isn't XI, but it would be a nice carry over, considering the rate we get untradeable gear we collect (and don't want to throw since "I'm gonna level that eventually!").

    1. Mail between alts.
    2. Mail between alts.
    3. ... guess.

It's a combination of two things: 1) As a roleplayer, I tend to come up with multiple character concepts that I want to play out, and 2) I need visual variety. I get bored staring at the same character forever and ever. Having alts doesn't preclude leveling cross-class abilities. I've actually leveled PGL and LNC and MRD four or five times now because of cross-class abilities.

Well...I thought my post was obvious about that.

It was for the looks. Different races. :3

I enjoy playing as different characters. It's fun to interact with people as a Hellsguard M or an Elezen F because they are so different. But too, I see this game as being able to play as different people rather than just as different jobs. I guess that's more a roleplay thing?
