gearing up a fresh toon

im not sure where this belongs although since raiding is the goal, this seemed the most suitable forum for this post.

im a new player just starting out in the final fantasy mmo world, although i know other mmos rather well i dont have the foggiest clue what the gear up process is like here. im nearly 50 on my first class now and want to gear up as quickly as i can to see end game content.

so what is the best/most efficient method to gearing up? or better yet is there a guide that lists such somewhere out there on the internet?

There are several guides out there, but I can give you the quick run down.

Here's a list of things you should do, in order:

1. Make sure you get your AF armor from your lvl 45 and 50 job quests. This is your basic starting point.
2. Buy Lvl 49 High-Quality accessories. They will cost you 5-10k apiece, but will last until you can replace them with drops/Darklight.
3. Buy your item-level 55 Grand Company weapon, or the crafted equivalent from the Market.
4. Complete both Castrum Meridium and the Praetorium for your story quest, these will give you Philosophy tomes that you use to buy Darklight.
5. Start your relic quest, and you can do everything up to the primals really in AF gear/white accessories.
6. Start running Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep that drop i55 gear, as well as giving out more tomes. These also give out Mythology tomes, which are used to buy the highest tier of gear.
7. Complete Ifrit HM & Garuda HM, and run these a few times to get either your i60 or i70 weapon from one or the other, which you can use to kill Titan HM (Alternatively, you can kill King Moogle for the i75 weapon, but he is slightly more difficult).
8. Once you have a few drops or Darklight pieces, run Crystal Tower once a week to get your i80 armor piece (you can only get one Need OR Greed drop per week).
9. You can also start running Copperbell HM, Haukke Manor HM, and Pharos Sirius at this point, which all drop i60 armor/accessory pieces.

Complete 6-9 several times until you have enough Philosophy tomes to buy 3-4 pieces of Darklight (i70), which should bring you to about 3100-3500 HP (depending on your class), which will help you be able to take on Titan HM. You can alternatively buy i70 crafted gear, but this tends to be expensive, and may or may not be a viable option for you.

10. Find a group that you can practice Titan HM with (or alternatively buy a carry), or practice in the Duty Finder before finding a kill group.
11. Complete your relic quest to get your relic weapon.
12. Run Ultima Hm a few times to get your i80 necklace/ring.
13. Make sure you hit your Mythology tomes cap (450) each week, and use them to either upgrade your Relic to Zenith, or start buying i90 gear.
14. Start running Extreme Primals for the i90 accessories, and the ability to get one i90 weapon per week.
15. Find a Coil group, either pug or static, that you can start running the end-game raid with, which also drops i90 gear.

So, in order for each slot:

Weapon: Grand Company/Crafted (i55) -> Ifrit HM (i60) -> Garuda HM (i70) -> King Moogle (i75) -> Relic/Titan HM (i80) -> Relic Zenith/Extreme Primals (i90) -> Allagan (i95)
Armor: Artifact/WP/AK Drops (i50/i55) -> Copp HM/Haukke HM/Pharos (i60) -> Darklight (i70) -> Crystal Tower (i80) -> Myth/Allagan (i90)
Accessories: Crafted HQ (i49) -> Copp HM/Haukke HM/Pharos (i60) -> Darklight (i70) -> Ultima HM (i80 - Necklace & Ring only) -> Extreme Primals/Myth/Allagan (i90)

^ ^ This is all really good stuff. I would add that AK drops iLVL 60 gear, not 55. Also, if your DPS is good enough to consistently drop the Demon Wall than you should que for HM Duty Roulette once a day. The bonus tomes are deffinately worth it and you will get into full Darklight gear a lot faster. With multiple dungeons now dropping iLVL 60 you should gear up quicker than in the past. Try to find a good farming party for Ultima HM. DF results in a fail more often than not and unless you get super lucky, getting the accessories for your char could take awhile. Also, do your homework before trying Titan HM. Players drasticaly under estimate the difficulty of this fight.

ak does not drop ilvl 60 gear it has been changed to drop ilvl 55 gear and hte old ilvl 60 gear is now in the new dungeons.

Just bypass everything after getting a level 55 weapon by going straight to CT and farming level 80 gear, darklight, and myth gear in there.

GC Weapon -> Ifrit HM -> Moggle Mog -> Relic

Armor/Jewelry
Fresh 50 -> Farm CM/WP until full Darklight <-> Get loot from CT every week -> Coil/Extreme Modes

You can farm CM with vendor/questing gear.

Do not waste time with Copperbell, Haukke, or Pharos Sirius. Don't bother with crafted gear, or AK/WP gear. You just need Tomestones of Philosophy to get Darklight.

I'm also a new WHM and this thread is helping out alot! I just got all Darklight acessories and two pieces of WP warlock gear. Reached ilvl60 and hoping to start doing ifrit HM for a weapon! (I can fight him with lvl55 weapon correct?!)

You can do I frit with a level 55 weapon as healer. Ifrit is more of a dps check then anything else.

Simplified...

Weapon:
HQ i55 crafted weapon, about 10k on marketboard.
use it to kill garuda, straight up to i70.
use garuda weap to kill titan, straight up to relic i80.
collect myth tomes for 2 weeks and upgrade that to i90.

Armor:
AF armor from doing quests.
farm WP/CM/Praetorium for Darklight gear.
use darklight gear to do everything until coil/extreme modes where you can start replacing with i90.
spend mythology tomes to get the stuff that you arn't lucky enough to loot.
if you're lucky on loot take a look at what would be your BestInSlot gear and aim for that

(start gearing an alt. class in i80 from crystal tower if you have time for it, its normally wasted on a main after a few days)
