Despite its flaws, i like this game a lot

I was annoyed the first few hours i played this game, but it grew on me and now im a fan.
Its true this game does not have what other MMOs on the market have, but it does have qualities that no other MMO out there has, I would hate to see FFXIV turned into "just another mmo" like xi was.
As it stands, FFXIV offers a unique experience, there is no mmo on the market that even comes close.
If you want a standard mmo experience like...group all the time, join a guild, power level to do "end game" antics and talk stupidities in world chat, then why not play a standard mmo? The market is literally flooded with them.
This game dares to be different and i respect that, sure its flawed, has many problems but its still the most unique mmo out there, i hope it stays that way, but im not holding my breath.

    XI is niche.

XIV is also in the niche market, being that the game is currently targeted to masochist.

What is this "unique experience"? is it "Play this game if you want to get numbers up and dont do anything interesting with them!"

If by unique you mean repeatable quests that are central to the game, mundane crafting, hardly anything to explore, hardly any variety in zones then yes FFXIV is unique. And FFXI was hardly "just another MMO"...in fact you will hardly find a game like FFXI on the market nowadays. This isn't saying whether it was good or bad, that's up to you, but FFXI was much more unique than FFXIV was and to FFXI was by leaps and bounds the better game.

FFXIV developer's tried really hard to innovate but fell short. Honestly I don't think you can do much innovation with a MMORPG and still expect it to turn out to be a game with RPG elements.

No doubt people are going to want endgame content (which is slowly happening starting with dungeons).

Partying exists atm but soloing is viable enough that its not a necessity to party, and if you don't join a guild/linkshell you would have a hard time finding parties.

Trolling in shout is already happening.

The biggest mistake SE made with XIV is try to expand out of its niche market, the one it built with XI, instead of expanding on what worked and went with the niche again. Look at games like Demon's Soul and now its sequel Dark Souls, they have a niche following and didn't go crazy and go in a completely different direction with Dark Souls because they are targetting their fans. FFXI had its followers and if FFXIV took the best of XI and put 'em on steroid it would have been a major success at the very least for XI fans...now we're left with a game hardly anyone likes and one which has a bleak future at best.

I personally think that if things don't work out with XIV the only way SE can get back in the MMO market is by making a direct sequel to XI and calling it FFXI-2 and it takes place in Vana'Diel but maybe in the future or whatever. Because after this failure if SE announces years down the road that FFXX is an MMO everyone is going to ignore them.

I've been playing since Alpha without getting frustrated and leaving the game for months, and I still enjoy it, yes it needs fixing and more content but it's not an awful game.

So if the OP is serious (which these days its hard to tell on these forums) I kinda agree with what he is saying. It isn't like a lot of MMOs out there and yes its a niche market. Obviously in some ways it's going to be like other MMO's, but it doesn't have to be a clone like so many are these days.
