Aim for recipes 6 to 8 ranks higher than you: this strikes a decent balance between success rate and reward. As a general rule, I would move on after SP drops to below 300 now, unless the synth is profitable or useful to you.

At 30 (currently 33) I started doing Velveteen dyes (37), this alongside Linen dyes (39?) should supplement you for this rough stretch. Having a Botanist friend or being one yourself is a decent alternative to fishing, moreso if you do both. Plan on doing Dart Frogs to Disabling Powder at 39 (47 recipe. Other sites are reporting falsely since I'm told this can't be attempted until 37).

You can also fish Hammerhead Sharks at the Ferry Docks on ul'dah side with a spoon lure around lv20 Fisher and then turn them into Water Crystals.

It may just be me, but i am having a TON of trouble making Lanolin, even with the correct book and all up to date gear. Especially so when i can make arrows 9 ranks below with guild synth help and the correct books, and weave cloth / thread 8 below with no problems. For the people that have already gone past that stage, did you have to use more magic craftsmanship or drinks?

and im Not quite at that level but how does switching out the disabling powder for linen dyes work? is it another nasty synth like lanolin? At 42 conj im CONSTANTLY over near Broken water doing leves with LS mates who give me all their moss, i have a rather large stockpile and was hoping to use it A) to synth up alchemy B) to help up weaver as well >.>; i have this horrible obsession with making at least 60 of each colour cloth for my own personal stash when ranking up.

In my experience, the lanolin recipe seems to work best when using the off hand tool. Not sure if this is what you are doing, but try it and see if that changes things for you.

I'm just beginning to seriously rank up my alchemy for a sub to leather, so for now, need to get to at least R35 for the sub, but want Hand of the Gods as well, so to R36.

Having not used alchemy much at all, except for breaking down crystals, at R27 yesterday, I decided on grinding on bone crayfish at camp in between behests, and with T1 support, I found these to be particularly nasty, so I decided to wait and get T3 support in town. Even with top tier support, I found this recipe to be especially nasty. It was very common to get progress 2/3/4 and durability loss 19/20 even with the synth stable.

With the majority of my crafting experience in crp/wvr/lth/gs, is this common with alchemy, or is this something I can expect from the fish --> crystal recipes (or did I just have a bad day lol)?

Also, any recommendations in laying out the best road from R28 - R36? I plan on farming some sheep today and grind on lanolin for a few ranks.

After 30, velveteen dyes. Red dyer's moss from Iron Lake is somewhat reasonable to get even if you can only manage 1 swing per node.

I also don't personally believe synth support has any benefit if the recipe does not -need- it. It just gets rid of the penalty associated.
