Just tell 'em it's your first time, assume the OT position and watch what everyone else is doing. Usually the other tank will give you the quick and dirty per boss so you're not taking up a lot of time and you get the gist of where you need to be.

I ran into CT n00b as Hell and figured it was like every other dungeon out there... If you're not main, you grab adds. Turned out I was basically right. I learned little nuances with each run, but for starting out, I just felt my way through. Research and videos help but none of that compares to actual experience. There's no dps race in here so take your time, watch and learn and don't be afraid to ask questions

I'm having the worse time holding aggro if I MT. I don't know if tanks from other alliances are using emity moves or what. What can I do to hold hate better or is it just a CT thing? Using a war btw.

From the chatter from my FC tanks it just sounds like everyone is using their enmity rotations and riding the main tanks ass on aggro. One of my FC tanks, PLD, kept hate from a WAR so he was pretty proud of that.

I have my animations effects off so I can't tell when other tanks are pulling off there moves. Its discouraging tanking when I feel I can't even hold hate. I'm not trying to tank behe or anything.

Tanks should know every encounter they go into before doing it. Set the example. No one should go blindly into something. Takes a matter of 5 minutes to watch a video guide on youtube. If you can't spare 5 minutes you shouldn't be playing MMOs.

yea one of the other tanks will finish, come over and provoke yours... rather then help u out with say storms path/eye combos, as WAR i can just do enmity combo > overpower and get it right back tho and save my provoke lol
plus the shield oath > sword oath bug hopefully being fixed right now...

I've "tanked" CT several times now and I don't think I've actually used Defiance at all except on my first run. You really only need 1 tank per alliance and the other tanks are always arguing over who is going to tank, up to and including provoking bosses off you and otherwise doing their best to rip hate. When you have 5 tanks all trying to be the hero, it makes life very hard for the healers. Having to swap healing targets every GCD because a different tank just finished his Halone/Butcher's Block combo is hell.

I'm happy to just put DPS accessories on and do some damage while applying Storm's Path/Eye. My self worth isn't tied to an agro meter.

If your party doesn't want to explain anything to you, tell the entire dungeon you're new. There'll be at least 1 person who's willing to explain it to you. Hell, there are countless people who have Macro's to explain each fight despite the fact no one asked for help.

I've ran into plenty of terrible groups, but there are 16 other players out there on Alliance chat. Don't be afraid to ask them for help, too. If no one helps, it's their own fault.

    Moogle: Black Mage ftw.

Here's a link to a bunch of rotation and DPS numbers I wrote up to try help BLM see they aren't as weak as they might think.

The thing about it is, people don't like to wipe on stuff they have done. So being late to the game means getting flamed for doing it blind.

Tanks go in blind, too, the first week of all new content. It's just that people have grown impatient over the years as content become piece-meal and are designed to cater to shorter play sessions. So for those of us who like to experience the thrill of new content, we need to be riding that first wave when new content are released.

It's sad, but that's what we get for playing with strangers. Can't expect strangers to be nice. Hell can't even expect FC members to be nice anymore. :3

When I'm tanking CT, I always go on my Warrior (been trying to get the Armour of Light for my Paladin to use in Coil, but ended up being stitched up last night by the glitch where last person in the dungeon automatically gets the last piece. Got the Fuma chest piece though, which looks awesome, so am slightly more over it now than I was, but back on topic!) who is pretty well geared, and I know I can MT everything in there very easily. I will always offer to be Main Tank, but will gladly go on Adds if someone else would rather MT. If I've gone in via DF I will always ask my Healers if they're okay with me being MT as well.

CT can be A LOT of fun if you get the right people who are willing to spend the time explaining, and don't get a load of trolls, but unfortunately the trolls outweigh those types.

We managed to pull off a full FC run and still ended up wiping on Bone Dragon :P
