Am I the only one who thinks it's funny that "she only took off three inches" means it was a quick haircut? I'm just saying, when my mom used to cut my hair (when I was 6), she didn't cut it one inch at a time.
Anyway, like others, I patched Rift two days ago (as soon as the patch was available), the download size was approximately 1/4 of this XIV patch. It was downloaded and installed within two minutes, and that is the norm that I've seen from other MMOs. By extension, XIV should be downloaded and installed within eight. I told my boyfriend I'd eat my daughter's shoe if that were the case.
My client was current as of 1.17b since I logged in to check on something last week. I have all the proper ports forwarded. Since I'm not playing XIV right now, and this latest patch promised nothing that would make me want to, I actually wasn't going to update my client until 1.18, but I was promised that waiting two days made the patch download and install at normal, expected rates. So today (two days post-patch release), I patched my client.
10:15 - Start download
10:27 - UAC for installation
10:32 - Installation complete
So, 12 minutes to download + 5 minutes to check and install the file = 17 minutes. More than twice as long as the time I would expect from any other company. My daughter's shoes are safe.
Now, don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that 17 minutes is an interminable length of time, simply that XIV's patching speed is far below the norm that I personally experience with any other company, and nobody has posted numbers that contradict this fact.
