How is it not an issue on SE's end when virtually no other modern MMOs have this problem?

You claim to have played WoW, but if you really had you'd know that the active players out of its 11 million subscribers quickly and smoothly download their patches in a reasonable timeframe, and log in with no problem on patch day. One way they speed up this process with major content patches is by allowing you to pre-download patch data ahead of time so you'll be ready to go on patch day. And if that isn't enough, their patcher is so awesome it's broken into 3 stages. After stage one, you are free to log in and play. That's right, you can log in before it's even finished.

FFXI was off and running before WoW was even heard of. SE is on their second MMO, and they still haven't figured out how to handle their own updates? Was this entire game outsourced during development or something? It's like they don't even know how to fix their own code.

I understand not all companies are Blizzard. So, as it's been mentioned, look at other games like Rift and Aion. Trion and NCSoft are much smaller developers, and you can download and play on patch day, no problem.

And your solution is that people should just wait a day or two?

"Server lag is making it impossible to play." "Just wait."
"Poor UI response is making simple actions take 5 times as long." "Just wait."
"My mouse won't move because it's software rendered." "Just wait."
"Stamina bar and animation-stop between active and passive mode make combat feel slow." "Just wait."
"No chocobos, airships, low-mid level content or endgame." "Just wait."
"It's been nine months now and the game still isn't worthy of the Final Fantasy name." "Just wait."

Seriously, are you Tanaka in disguise? Because that is the attitude that is making people really cranky around here. Everyone is tired of waiting for improvements, and being made to feel like we expect too much when everyone else in the gaming world gets the freaking job done.
