How is it not an issue on SE's end when virtually no other modern MMOs have this problem?

You claim to have played WoW, but if you really had you'd know that the active players out of its 11 million subscribers quickly and smoothly download their patches in a reasonable timeframe, and log in with no problem on patch day. One way they speed up this process with major content patches is by allowing you to pre-download patch data ahead of time so you'll be ready to go on patch day. And if that isn't enough, their patcher is so awesome it's broken into 3 stages. After stage one, you are free to log in and play. That's right, you can log in before it's even finished.

FFXI was off and running before WoW was even heard of. SE is on their second MMO, and they still haven't figured out how to handle their own updates? Was this entire game outsourced during development or something? It's like they don't even know how to fix their own code.

I understand not all companies are Blizzard. So, as it's been mentioned, look at other games like Rift and Aion. Trion and NCSoft are much smaller developers, and you can download and play on patch day, no problem.

And your solution is that people should just wait a day or two?

"Server lag is making it impossible to play." "Just wait."
"Poor UI response is making simple actions take 5 times as long." "Just wait."
"My mouse won't move because it's software rendered." "Just wait."
"Stamina bar and animation-stop between active and passive mode make combat feel slow." "Just wait."
"No chocobos, airships, low-mid level content or endgame." "Just wait."
"It's been nine months now and the game still isn't worthy of the Final Fantasy name." "Just wait."

Seriously, are you Tanaka in disguise? Because that is the attitude that is making people really cranky around here. Everyone is tired of waiting for improvements, and being made to feel like we expect too much when everyone else in the gaming world gets the freaking job done.

I think the "attitude" that you're referring to is more of an understanding or acceptance that they have that many don't seem to have.

I understand that this game has a lot of major issues and accept that it's going to take a long~time to fix it. Until then, I play and enjoy it for what it's worth. As long as I know they are doing something to make it better, and I know they are doing a lot, I'm satisfied till that time.

Cheer up Rowyne, we have a good server and good friends to entertain us. Don't you think? :-)

Wow just read through this thread and Kilta sorry but you are absolutely incorrect on so many levels.

If you bothered to read you would have saw that I got fed up with the "patcher" and threw it into uTorrent. In uTorrent the patch downloaded in 4 and a half mins, the "patcher" still had 4+ hours on it. I believe both uTorrent and the patcher get the update the same way from the same sources using a torrent style setup. It's just for me uTorrent was a million times better at linking me up to seeds than the patcher is.

    Dear SE,

we do understand you don't have the technical skills to build a decent patching system (scaling servers, optional P2P, win32 interface, delta patching). But it's ok. I don't have them either. Really, it's ok, Don't try to improve it anymore. Don't apologize anymore. But please, consider investing in an existing patching solution. This would be a very potent investment, as it would ease the use of all of your games at once. I'm also pretty sure it would cost less than trying to build something decent from your actual system. And it would make everyone of us happier.

We are not angry with you SE. But now, please, it's time to be reasonable and do things properly.

    Cheers.

    Did an interesting little experiment.
I downloaded the patch, as soon as it was available.
    It took me 45 min.
    Waited almost 10 hour.
    I uninstalled 14.
    Reinstalled.
    30min to patch.

I'll let you guys argue about what that means.

The patcher clearly needs work and SE seem to be aware of that, but I think the bigger issue is whether it's really necessary for us to download a 328mb file for a 100kb update. Come on, guys, some common sense goes a long way. +_+

I didn't have issues at all, took me 15-20min to download patch and to redownload full take me 40mins tops. I open my ports i have 6MB download 512kb upload using AT&T. I really don't know why everyone having issue and some are not but i agree SE should just have a webpage you could download each patch.

btw there is a website that allow you to download each patch go look it up on Google.
