Went from conjurer to arcanist but having problems

So I decided kinda late in the game I wanted to go for scholar instead of white Mage but had already leveled the conjurer up to 20 before I made the decision. So I changed class to arcanist but I have no spells beside the ones used for alchemy. No bio or anything through to level 7.

What have I done wrong? If anyone can help please explain in very plain terms as I am a virtual noob when it comes to ff 14. Last Final Fantasy I played was 7!

You switched to Alchemist, not Arcanist. Arcanist is a Disciple of Magic casting class. Alchemist is a crafting class.

To unlock Arcanist go to Limsa and head to the Arcanist's Guild. If you've unlocked all the Aetherytes in Limsa it will appear as a destination on the Aetheryte network.

Not to be funny, but are you sure you joined the Arcanist guild and not the Alchemist guild ?

Class switching is basic, once you equip the weapon item slot for that class you become that class, when you joined the Arcanist class you should of gained a Grimoire and the spell Ruin I and probably lost the ability to wear most of your level 20 Conjurers clothes... to switch back to Conjurer you simply equip the rod/wand of your Conjurer (or use the gear set system and create a gear set for each class, note you can accidentaly delete items one class is using and if its the weapon in the gear set it will break the gear set).

I'm sorry about the confusing post. My terns and names are all mixed up I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure I DID join the alchemist guild and not the arcanist. That would surely be my problem. I must have thought they were one in the same. Thanks for your quick help. I should be able to leave alchemist at 7 and try again for arcanist right? If so at least I only went 7 levels into alchemist before breaking down and asking!

you can switch to any other guild at any time once you unlock the ability to switch, you just need to go to Limsa Lominsa and talk to the gal in the Arcanist guild.
