Non-Legacy Movement -- Forced to Walk Going Backwards?

So.. just curious is there any reason why the non-legacy movement scheme forces you to walk when you move backwards? I really like non-legacy's sidestep movement, but the backward movement drives me insane.

Why aren't we able to run backwards like legacy movement?

If you want to run backward hold right mouse button, move mouse left or right till you turn 180 degrees while pressing forward.

Drives me nuts watching new tanks trying to backpedal out of Succubus' Dark Mist in Haukke Manor.

In a game where turn-on-a-dime dodging is so important for mobs, it's sort of weird to me that they even have the non-legacy movement... my assumption is that they wanted a movement set where it actually resembled "real" movement rather than the very video-gamey Legacy movement where you unnaturally flip to run in another direction instantaneously. It would be nice to have a 3rd movement set that was a mix of the two, Legacy for backwards motion and non-Legacy for the sides.

I tried Legacy Movement. Felt unnatural to me, so i went back to not Legacy. Half my skills are on my Mouse anyway, and I've always used the double mouse clicks to run from AoEs, in all the MMOs I've played.

The reason is a deeply complex anatomical wound that every playable character has in the thighs (which also explains the reason why buttocks are not naturally shaped). The doctors said that we would never be able to run again... But! With enough willpower, we were able to overcome this weakness and still managed to find a way to run anyway!

Unfortunately, we had to sacrifice our ability to run backward. A shame, really... We should all be angry toward Bahamut, to inflict such a terrible wound to all of us, and kill him! Then, we need to roast him and eat him. Only then, perhaps, we could recover and finally gain the ability to run backward!

You can strafe ("side-step") using the non-Legacy mode, too, just change your keybinds.

    Backpedaling has its uses.

Legacy mode is controlling the camera and having your character "follow" the camera. Non-legacy mode you are controlling your character. Backpedaling or not is just a side-effect.

If you want finer control over combat, you want the non-Legacy mode, where you can move in one direction while watching out for things in another direction. Backpedaling is easily avoided if you learn to control the character and camera separately.

This right here. The people I tend to see having issues with backpedaling more often come from single player games, or the very few MMOs that don't have it. Like XIV 1.0. It's actually the norm in an MMO of this sort to have backpedal.

Hence why it is called "Standard" mode.
