One day I will be cool enough to tell people in FF14 how much they suck because xxxxxx. Who cares? I'm going to go for myth gear because I like the way it looks better (for PLD and DRG at least). I do wish it was tougher to obtain though.

Well eveyone looks at gear ilevel. Even the dev team. But many forget that better gear means only better survability ^^ having ilevel 90 instead of ilevel 60 will only help you to not be one shout by garuda attack ^^
Maybe this is what people are looking for ^^ staying a bit alive hoping the over members will kill the monster and be lucky for the drop ^^
Another thing is miscommunication ^^ when i fought garuda main quest i died a lot of time and did not know why, i asked no answer. One day someone told me i have to go as far as possible to garada opposite side when she went out the field. After this no more dead.
It's always been Skill > Gear - the problem is there is not much skill required in ffxiv, let alone enough to really outshine the other carbon copies of your job. You can be full i90 and not know how to play your job just on the basis of collecting myth points.
They are just fishing for any reason to make them feel like a special snowflake
When they had more Myth than the average player (average as in time spent, not ability). Myth was cool. Now more and more are acquiring myth and they dont feel "important" anymore they are fishing for another reason to be that "special snowflake" again. Myth isn't "cool" anymore. XD
The bigger you act in a game, the smaller you are in RL. Compensating you see ^_^
as much as i think people who make a big deal about ilvl are silly. and as much as i think the concept itself is silly. i am kinda glad something has been put in place to at least kind of deter way under-geared people from trying to join in stuff out of their league. im sorry, but there are a few situations where without the proper gear you will be a burden on your pt. the most obvious example is titan HM. all the skill in the world doesnt mean jack if you dont have a enough hp's to survive p5 stomps or cant put out the dps even with a flawless rotation to drop the heart. in short, ill just reiterate what others have said.
gear will not make a bad player good, but it will make a good player better
Ilevel is causing alot of dmg.
I was not taken into a titan extreme party finder because my Sch only has Ilevel 76 gear (some allagan, +1 relic, and quint stacked hq ilvl70 crafted stuff on most the other slots). They said it was not good enough and they refused to change it..... even though I just got done beating twintania on Sch the day before in my guild. No loss to me beat it with a guild group when people got on, but it represents the cluelessness of the masses in the game currently. Before Ilvl people were taking people will skill, now all it depends on is ilvl nothing else.
Honestly it is causing more issues then it is solving. The difference between Ilvl 70 (with materia) and Ilevel 90 is maby a 6-8% difference in dmg/healing. The biggest effect is weapon which I think is funny my war that I am working on wearing my heavy darklite and assessories I got on my pld is Ilvl86 with an ilevel70 weapon and ilvl 60helm. So I can go into most peoples twintanias partys on Party finder but only have a Garuda Axe and hoplite helm?
Ilevel is a joke and people need to stop using it as a gate, it is pointless. Skill and experience is far more important then Gear. If anything people just need to ask do you have a Ilvl90 weapon and do you have experience. If you have the weapon you can be wearing full darklite and easily beat any content in the game if you know the fight.

I decide how good you are based on how attractive your toon is. If you are ugly you must suck.
Oh for the days of XI where everything wasn't just blindly handed to you in coffers or tokens.
Not that I miss the nonsense of getting hosed by the RNG time & again, but at least there was a sense of having truly earned your gear back then (not to mention XIV is complete EZ mode in comparison - I'd wager 75% or more of the community wouldn't even get past Promyvion)
Alternatively you can say that a person who chooses to invest their myth into their main may be more skilled than say a person who could've simply gotten lucky in coil and won some drops for an alt.
