To many, you're the one being "that guy". ilvl has a purpose, and a good one at that, it's players that warp and distort it into what you believe it is.
Well, here's the deal- I don't go run with strangers knowing that I am not ready for content. Content has gear requirements... that's not a huge deal... that's one way to tell if someone can handle content- that is not the same as judging them as a player or person.
And? I won't do things I don't feel i'm prepared for either. That doesn't change the fact you bashed a simple number on your gear that's actually useful.
People got along just fine before Iscores. There are other ways of checking gear without such an obvious and overly simplified mechanic.
In fact, back in the "good old days" there were actually different stat requirements for different encounters. I guess that is too complicated for the target audience in this case.
Still doesn't change that the number is useful. Part of the problem with gear that you can't tell if is an upgrade or not, is just that. Not all players play to play the numbers game, they want "is it better or not". For the gear that is better for different encounters, it becomes a burden, and then people start requiring you to have multiple sets for different fights... oh this is going to the same place YOU went with ilvl.People got along just fine before Iscores. There are other ways of checking gear without such an obvious and overly simplified mechanic.
