lv90 make you a better player then the lv50 guy no matter what. this game sole purpose is gear level.
even if your the master of the game if your gear is too weak you lose, theres tank checks, dps checks & healer checks in this game.

in FFXI if you were good you could solo things naked.

It doesn't make you a better player. It makes your character stronger, nothing else.

That's why there is a minimum required ilvl for content now.
But that doesn't mean players with high ilvl are better, or let's say, more effective.
I can easily see a weaker geared character with good skill perform as good as a better geared character with mediocre skill.
I can also see players with high ilvl gear fail at content designed for lower ilvls.

You wouldn't believe how many ilvl75+ players fail at stuff like Titan HM. I rather take players with lower ilvl as long as they don't get kicked out by landslide, or hit by plumes or bombs everytime.

Not if you didn't either use Utsusemi, a pet class, some sleep/bind-bomb or run-dot tactic and were going after something stronger than "even match".

EDIT: Funny fact: A member of our FC got kicked from a Titan HM party because he had green gear (ilvl70 Mailbreaker and Darksteel armor with melds) with the explanation that he was too weak without blue gear.

I would rather tank Coil in ilevel 50 gear with an AF1 whm healing me while laughing about it than waste 10 minutes of my life with an Ilevel 90 geared loud mouthed idiot.

But that's just me... I prefer the company of quality people over some stupid game assigned gear number. I find that usually it makes for a more pleasant experience... we can get better gear- your stuck with your horrible attitude.
