    New to forum

    Hello Forum!

I'm new to this forum. Been browsing over the last couple of days, so thought it would be good to say hi.

Also, been playing for a few months now, as a PLD. First ever MMO for me and found out I took on an interesting role to start off with.

Just to embarrass myself and show the level of newbie I had been, did you know there is a threat level symbol that is a red square when you have threat, and green circle if you have none? Yellow or orange triangle means you better pick up the pace.... And that flash actually still generates threat level even though the "blind" aspect of it says the mobs aren't vulnerable? Haha! That sucked for those I was tanking for in the first month I was your tank.

My apologies. But also my sincerest thanks to those that really took a second and helped me out. I'm hoping to be able to glean a lot of good insight and valuable data on this forum as well.

    Welcome to the forums.

For future reference, before believing anything anyone posts, always make sure every source of information you read on the forums is backed up by an official source or by supported numbers and evidence. If you follow riots recklessly, you will become lost fairly quickly. The forums is always a place for complaints because its really the only place you can complain publicly.

Even if you read something and feel like its kind of a true, its recommended that you always find a legit source to support that. Otherwise, enjoy yourself as you adventure for useful information on the forums.

    Have fun reading!

Hello Alrik, welcome to the game. Tanking is actually a very difficult role in this game. Take it slow and you should understand everything there is to know about it. Feel free to post any questions on the forums or ask in-game/FC/LS. You might get some toxicity as mentioned, but just keep a clear head and you should be fine. The community, for the most part, is great.

Have fun and I hope to see you online, prolly via DF.

Haha. Found this out the hard way. But at least I'm doing pretty good for the most part.

Yeah, was pretty hard to start off. I found "blame it on the tank" and "you're a noob" (followed by exiting the instance) to happen a lot at the beginning and was, frankly, embarrassing. But then I started pairing up with some people on random DF that really helped me out, explained how things went, examples of good pulls, etc, and learned to ignore the sarcasm and BS. Most importantly, though, from the help I got, I learned when I made mistakes and finally started to be able to laugh at them with the others. Then it became fun.

Have fun and I hope to see you online, prolly via DF.
Looking forward to it. Let's see how I do....

    Welcome!

Psh, "let's see how I do." From these posts alone, I can tell you're doing just fine! The folks who won't take advice, learn about their class/job -- those guys usually don't fair so well. I've only met a few with your motivation, and they are an absolute pleasure to group with. I am glad that you are enjoying the challenge!

Indeed. It looks like you're quite up to speed with a Lv50 PLD and 46 WHM. It's always good to see people succeed. This is where the game really picks up.

Good luck with the Primals, CT, and Coil groups. As is usual in most MMOs, the biggest hurdles for tanks is gear. Consider reading this guide on how and where to gear up. It is a little outdated, but the general gist is to supplement the Wanderer Palace and Ampador Keep runs with additional mythology and philosophy runs (story quest dungeon, low-level dungeon, and high-level dungeon roulettes, and maybe CT if you are feeling bold).

Prioritize armor pieces first (especially body and leg, other pieces of gloves, helm, belt, and boot at your own discretion). Higher level weapons will help a lot if you are having trouble keeping enmity on targets. And lastly, when gearing up, keep an eye on bringing your ACC stat to 444 (you might want to check with a devoted tank for optimal number, but I think its 444 or higher) for Coil.

If you have the time or the willpower, try to level MRD to 8 for bloodbath. It pairs wonderfully with your fight-or-flight buff and savage blade combos for some extra durability/enmity in tough fights. Foresight has some uses, but there are better skills to put in your cross-class slots (experiment to see what suits you). Stoneskin is also good on a tank, so it is good that you have it. If you are thinking of healing, you will want THM at 26 for Swiftcast. Nothing beats back an emergency like a benediction+swiftcast+medica2/cure2, swiftcast+stoneskin, or swiftcast+raise.

Indeed. Hats off to the healers even more so. I've done some dungeon runs as a WHM, and it can become chaotic when you are quite new to it all.

Excellent. Thanks for the quick tips. I've been doing the stoneskin, and managed to get ACC over 455. REALLY good idea for bloodbath, as I hadn't thought of cross over on any of the WAR skills. Why? Noob I guess. :P

    Welcome to Eorzea!

And don't be afraid to ask questions. I've found that the people who come to the New Player Help part of the forums are most helpful.
