New Tank, Few Questions (moved from General Discussion)

I've done the role of a healer, I've done the DPS, so now I'm rolling with the tank and so far I'm enjoying it. It's a nice change from the usual "OMG BURST DAMAGE KILL IT KILL IT BEFORE WE WIPE" or the whole "I CANT HEAL YOU THROUGH THAT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING STANDING IN AOE THAT I CAN HEAL YOU THROUGH??" so for me its a nice change of pace. Just a few questions about the Pally I'm interested in finding out.

What stat allocation is the best? Ive hear dump it into VIT, but i see the level 50 gear is full of VIT. Some say DEX is best for parry and blocking rate, and a few say that strength but others counter that its negligible damage to bring up the stat.

I'm trying to get it as best as possible so any help guys? Please give reason for the stat allocation too if you would

Vit is best, dex helps parry a little but won't make or break a fight. Str is good but you don't need more damage as pld you will pull plenty of hate with your combos.

Vit offers you health which increases how big of hits you can take, how much percent abilities heal / mitigate for you (stoneskin, lustrate) and how much time your healer has to react.

Basically what's already been said. Go 30 vit unless:

There are values referred to as "break points". Meaning you get a % increase to parry, block, dodge, etc. If for example you're at 339 str and there is a breakpoint at 340 str to get another 1% to parry I would think its worth it to go 29/1 vit/str for that 1%. I don't know the break points off the top of my head, although I probably should, but you can probably find them easily enough.

That's basically the only time you wouldn't want to go 30 vit.

There are no breakpoints. What you are seeing is a rounded (or truncated) number, 23.49% gets rounded to 23% to avoid clogging the screen. No other stat in the game has break points, why should block/parry%?

EDIT: I should add that there is no definitive proof one way or the other, but the weight of evidence points towards a linear increase.

Read this, this is a very good source for new tanks. Talks about pretty much everything you'll need to know.

I've always been full VIT and never had a problem with hate or staying alive

Have seen a couple full STR but they quickly changed that when trying to MT turn 4.
