If you are getting hit by AoEs with markers and you seem to be only around 25 which is Totorak? Then I would say you are either a bad player or are having serious lag issues. And I say bad player here because it sounds like you have tried over and over and are simply not getting it.

Brayfrox? And yeah if you can't dodge the breath which is really easy to dodge by the way then you will die. that last fight is all on the tank. And the lag doesn't distort the game or anything but it has been proven that there can be lag that the hit markers show up later than when the attack actually starts charging and many MANY people have issues with it and thus why I think your issue is indeed a form of lag. If for some chance it isn't lag than you and that 1k videos you found are all really bad.

It sounds like connection/lag. Are you PS or PC? I only ask, as my friend is a tank on PS3, and when we did Brayflox he could not dodge that breath for sh1t. I was his healer and he used so much of my mana as almost 90% of time I had to Esuna and spam CureII to save him. I was Ether crazy! :P He found it really difficult to evade it.
His is definately lag. He is a very remote person with wireless BB to his house; so its not great.

I think you can run through the dragon tho (to his bum)-might be quicker to avoid? Or maybe you dont see the aoe right away as you are squeezed against the wall, tanking him? (assume you use the wall-tank senario). That was my friends problem-he didnt see the aoe half the time. In the end, we did a confcall, and when it appeared I shouted him to move. It was better...he still got hit sometimes

As soon as the cast starts, move. Even if you cant see the aoe. It will benifit your healer also, as with more mana thay can keep everyone alive and look after whoever is the "chosen one" (the one to get spat on-not always the tank!)

    Good Luck!

Stand closer to the boss so that the cone isn't as wide. You'll barely have to move and you'll have plenty of time to get out of the way.

@OP Lag can effect your response time but one way to work around aoe range is after you know the range of it, meaning after you see it used then you can compensate by speeding up your reaction to it just by a few seconds until you get it right.

You mentioned that you are repeating the same challenge so that would mean you have repetitively tried to avoid the same aoe from the same mobs so your chance of predictability should be higher. Make sure you have your chat log set to filter out unneeded messages, even if you have to dedicate a specific chat window to only show mob action messages, so that you can see the aoe attack's action message and the timestamp. It should show you where the mob is preparing the attack and how much time you have to escape after that message is posted in the log. It is a matter of compensating for timing once you have experienced the aoe range.

Lag can definitely play a part in the problem and it can be really nasty if you start getting lag spikes while fighting some of the later bosses like the HM and EX primals.

If it is continuously happening, I would make sure that I have a good connection on my end. If you are on PS3 and connecting wirelessly, maybe try going wired.

As far as what you can do in game, learn the attack patterns and aoe attack so that you can predict and quickly react to them. Also follow the shortest path to get out of the aoe, for cone attacks it is often best to just run straight and through the boss.

Mortucus, if you are talking about dragon breath from brayflox end boss, from experiments:
    * don't stand in his red circle
    * move out of the line and go towards the boss to the circle limit.

I dunno why, but if u stay in his red circle, u take the hit even if you out of the rectangle (at least that's what happened to me)

I don't know why no one has answered his question yet. It's a pretty simple answer.

Some abilities have shorter cast times and you will have less time to dodge them.

Landslide, for example, has a fairly long cast time and whereas Weight of the Lands has a shorter cast time. So you will see people pretty much never getting hit by Landslide but will occasionally get hit by Weight.

Since you're comparing the dragon breath to open world abilities, that's the difference. Pretty much all open world enemies have ridiculously long cast times and you'll be out of the aoe circles ages before they finish the cast.
