    Cosplay Props for White Mage

    Hey there,
Had a few questions out there directed to cosplayers or those who know a thing or two of making prop weaponry. I'm hoping to make Thyrus or a different wand or staff for a White Mage cosplay this summer, however I am not certain how I should go about with the measurements.
Any tips, tricks or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!

Well, the concept art for WHM AF and the Thyrus doesn't include dimensions sadly, but it does show the weapon in size relation to it's wielder (artwork also exists of it being used by a lalafell WHM), so all you can really do is take that design and apply it to a real world item like a broom handle, and derive some dimensions from that. I dont think you'll ever be able to get the 'exact' dimensions for it though, as they pretty much don't exist. Anyway, good luck with your costume! I'd love to make my own WHM AF costume, but I just don't have the time sadly.

Weapons scale to character size obviously so you'll want to find a hyur-type character with a Thyrus out. Take as vertical a screenshot as you can so you get a good relationship between character height and the staff.

Break out a stick ruler (or measure in pixels, whatever) and get the height of character/staff ratio, multiply that by your actual height, and you should get the real-life length. Do that with every other important measurement too (like width of the haft, the wings etc.)

My tip if preparing thyrus is make the head extremely lighter compared to the staff or it will tend to fall. Depends on which material you're planning to use.
Adding some weight to the bottom (the tail) may help to balance it but the wielder must be very careful walking

If you make a new character, the height slider gives an approximate real-world height of the character. Just find out which race's average height is closest to yours, find someone with Thyrus of that race, and make comparisons.

as a cosplayer myself i'd simply take normal hyur (cuz most human-like being) with a whm staff. then it's just simple measuring and calculating. for example if you're doing relic weapon, measure the length ingame of one of those wings and compare it to your.. let's say arm. then measure your real arm length and with those data calculate the real-life measurement for the wings. and so on and so on. that's the way i've always did and always will do my weapons and it works great.
