Maybe if they make tanks actually fun to play instead of just spam 1 2 3 over and over and over.

I think my Pally with full AF and a nice Longsword looks heroic and bada**. I don't get the allure of DPS. The damage isn't tangible. We're all wailing on a 100k HP boss, what does it do for your epeen that you did .01 millimeter of the health bar more than someone else. Tanks are the ones managing CDs, watching for cleaves, still doing SOME damage, keeping adds and other aggros in check, most of the time CC canceling too. And I don't want more Tanks on this game, I LOVE my insta-queues
Because tanking in this game is extremelly boring.
The only fights I can think of that are fun are MTing garuda EX, OTing Coil turn 4, and turn 5. All of the others just dont have mechanics for tanks.. Or a rehash of them.. Swap at 2 stacks of debuff. God, we had that in ADS, now in ultima, titan and ifrit!!
Holy Castlevania: Symphony of the Night flash backs, batman!
Anyway, on topic....
There are few tanks because people put a huge amount of importance on the tank role in dungeons, and if the tank screws up (or even if they don't and someone else scres up) they get the slack for it. Healers are in the same boat as well, though to a less extent because they can pawn fails off to the tank too ("Oh I didn't heal the DPS because it's the tanks job to make sure they don't get hit" etc.).
That said... I find this whole concept of one job being more important than another ridiculous. Every job is important and needed. You won't see teams of just tanks and healers clearing content at an appropriate level/gearing (not group content anyway), at least not in this game where there are so many encounters with DPS checks.
All roles are important and you can feel it when someone doesn't do their job.

Correct however you feel it MORE when a Tank or Healer doesn't do their job
I'm far from eccentric, I'm so psychotic...
I don't feel any extra responsibility as a Tank or Healer than Im doing DPS. I've played and loved all 3 roles in every MMO I've played. Many people simply want to do big damage.
Without a Tank, everyone dies.
Without a Healer, everyone dies slowly.
Without DPS, Everyone dies REAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY slowly.
No job is more important than any one other job. Some phases need more skill for some jobs than others. Look at Siren for example. A good example of a boss where everyone is just as important as everyone else. DPS have to kill zombies, Tank has to keep the hate, and Healers have to keep everyone topped off. A failure from any one role means a wipe.
Titan is another good example of a fight that asks much of all its roles.
that's not even true, whether you're talking about story titan, or hm titan, or titan x
you can easily recover from losing a dps (my first titan x kill we had 3-4 deaths throughout, still managed to meet the dps checks)
to be fair though, there are quite a few openings where you can lose a tank/healer and still have time to rez them and recover
but.. if a tank or healer eats a landslide, that's almost always a wipe, a dps though? yeah you can 7 man titan x

All fights in this game 'punish' poor dps. The longer any fight goes on, the more of a chance there is for a wipe. Pudding boss in wp with crap dd? Doesn't matter how good the tank and healer are (unless its a whm, lol holy) if the dps go down, its a wipe. There are very few fights in this game that don't 'punish' slow dps.
