I'll try again when it gets nasty but what is the link to your post so I can post there as well? I also did a ping test to the data center and it was Avg= 33ms.
Notice how the path is totally different in those 2 tracerts, from Level3 to "above".
I think Verizon is doing something.

That's pretty much what I requested. Basically told them the game I was playing, the IP I was using, and that when running traces everyone had noticed erratic latency and high packet loss. Surprisingly, I was almost immediately given an admin email to send my trace data to for review. Since I saw an opportunity to grab the ear of someone important, I tried to give them a full overview of what I've seen happening (the IP's I use, how I connect, times I see the losses and high lag, etc.) and then provided a trace that showed the losses.

A few days later, my route shifted from going straight to Charlotte off my modem to Raleigh. Since then it's changed about every 2 weeks, and have been bounced up, down, and around corridors I've never used--once got shot to LA from NC, then up through Seattle and back over to Montreal (that was a rough weekend). Two times I sent follow up emails two the same address after a change made things markedly worse, providing a pathping (gives more data than tracert).

Have to say I'm surprised with how well TWC-SC has been responding. It's not so good in some regions, but so far I've been impressed with how they've handled my case.

Note that I contacted them through the web portal... not through the lower level phone support.

Most likely another Tier 1 pissing match on peering. Not the first time with Cogent and Level 3. Likely due to the money Netflix gives them for more bandwidth while dropping Verizon packets instead of opening more ports.

SE has zero control over this as they have no say over the "Internet superpowers".

Funny how the time period of lag is also the heaviest traffic period for bandwidth hogging streaming services like Netflix.

Verizon is also a Tier 1 provider now as well. However, as I said this isn't the first time for Cogent and Level 3. Also both Cogent and Level 3 don't compete against Netflix by providing a Video Service, where Verizon does.

Verizon and FFXIV are not the only ones with this issue. Other ISPs and services are affected as well.

In the end it's all about the $$$ and not the consumer.
