    How do I progress?

I’m a fairly new 50. I haven’t completed the story quests yet. (I’m near the end and waiting for my FC to all get on before I do that.) But I’ve been doing the Beast Clan Quests (funny every time I read Beast Clan, I hear a Volus saying it with his weezy respirator) to get tomestones and have been running Duty Roulette dungeons to get More tomestones. I have managed to pick up a few pieces of Darklight.

I know I need to run Crystal Tower to get better stuff. Heck I want to. And from what I understand there are some fates and a quest I need to do before I can do that.

Do I need to finish the story first before I can progress to CT? And If not where can I find the start to these wonderous quests that will let me get a chance to get some better gear?

    Thanks All!

Here's a nice guide for you:

    http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...0_in_patch_21/

I picked up this link from another thread on this forum.

Note that the Good King Mog XII(?XIII?) fight requires you to have done 2.1 main story additions, plus Guild Hests up to level 30, so you should also plan to have done that. Mog King drops iLv80 weapon which is very nice.

Get 1 piece of loot from CT. If you're a fresh 50, do not be picky, just get one piece your class can use, and worry about the order for further weeks later.

Buy your Grand Company ilvl 55 weapon (or use your relic precursor).
Run CM until you have most of your Darklight armors on the left side.
Run WP after that to finish your Darklight jewelry set.
Start on your relic quest, pick up a weapon from Ifrit HM, Garuda HM, or Thornmarch.
    Finish relic quest.
You can do Ultima, not required though.
Begin Coil once you have at least full darklight + relic weapon.
    Begin Extreme Modes.

You can craft HQ ilvl 70 items, but its generally not worth it. The materia prices can break your bank, and Darklight is satisfactory anyway. Prices may vary by server.

That reddit guide is pretty good. I'd also add to run the daily story and low level every day if you can, they are pretty easy and fast, and will kit you out in darklight pretty fast. Especially if you don't feel comfortable in the high level dungeons. That will get you to run Crystal Tower, which isn't really that hard if you can learn what to do when, and aren't in a derp group. One drop a week, but a ilevel 80 item, which is pretty sweet.

    Best way to progress?

Travel into the future and clear content then come back to the present so you can tell everyone you know what you're doing since no one wants newbies in new content.

    Thanks for the useful advice.

    1. Keep running the daily quests.
    2. Duty finder to do the Grand Company dungeon to I can be a LT and get good Grand company gear.
    3. Try to get my FC together to finish the story quests. (It is more fun with friends)
    4. Relic Quest?
    5. Good King Moogle Mog
    6. Crystal Tower
    7. Finish working on my Delorian.

    1. Grab an ilvl 55 or 70 weapon from the MarketBoard if either is below 100k (you should have approximately 250k at least if you've done quests and everything normally up to this point)
    2. Daily Quests and Dungeons for Philosophy tomes in order to get your Darklight gear.
    3. Run CT to get parts where you don't wish to use Darklight gear on.
    4. Relic Questline.
    5. Good King Moggle Mog(optional, could be done before relic questline)
    7. Coil, Extreme Primals, Myth equips.

Weapon wise, the first thing you should consider is a melded version of the weapon for your relic.

See the post "A Relic Reborn Walkthrough". They should be cheap now, often even HQ ones, and are very good for your initial Tomestone farming. You will need one anyway for your relic quest.

Note that you will have to hand it in during your relic quest, but you can use it until you get the Ifrit weapon. Ifrit is easily farmed using the Duty Finder now, so there's no harm in trying it a few times.
