    New Adventurer Seeking Help

I am pretty new to Eorzea and have some questions that I am hoping the community can help me with. First things first

Before I go any further with my Character I was wondering if I made the wrong choice for the best Conj and if it is so significant that I should go back and recreate my character.I am a level 13 Lalafell Dunefolk who worships the god Thaliak. Is this a viable and workable option for a conj/whm?

How do I get from starting city to another? I want to eventually get into Weaving but I did not get the choice to start in that specific guilds city...which I believe is Uldah

End Part 1 forums will only let me post 1000 character -_-

    - Questions part 2
When it comes to spells and abilities are there only the spells you see on your characters profile or is it like XI where you find and obtain scrolls for more spells?

As a Conjurer What is a logical level difference to take on enemies? Also is there a point in the game where soloing no longer becomes viable like in XI? (Valkrum Dunes for example all level 10 players went here to find parties)

Are there any new player guides or healer guides that you all would suggest I look at?

When it comes to lore and backgrounds what should I know to best enhance my RP and knowledge of Eorzea?

And last I hear you can have many LS's but only 1 FC and as of right now I am in a FC but was wondering if anyone would invite me to their LS even if it is only to help a noob. It doesn't matter if you RP or not I am just trying to find friends who can make the game a fun as possible, I am on the Gilgamesh server in Gridania...My character name is Malakye Haynes

    1. The character limit disappears when you edit a post. Compose it elsewhere (or just cut and paste from the post box), edit and paste in.

    2. The impact of race and deity are too tiny to worry about. It's a few points of stats out of hundreds at level 50. The difference is blown away by gear, skill, lag, and random chance.

    3. Around level 15 in the main story, you'll get quests to go visit the other nations on an airship. Once you're done with those quests, you'll be able to take the airships anytime.

    4. Some class quests award spells/skills. The level 15 class quest for each class, and every job quest once you unlock jobs. The rest you learn automatically.

    5. The level of enemies you can take on depends on your gear, too. In general, you shouldn't have any trouble with mobs your level or lower. Up to three levels higher are do-able if your gear is decent and you know what you're doing. More than that is possible, but takes more work. Soloing is viable all the way to 50. It's not the most efficient thing to do unless you're questing, but you won't reach a point where you have to party just to gain XP. (Though the main story does force you into group content like dungeons at several points.)

    6. I haven't seen any that are comprehensive. There are several wikis, and I hear reddit's nice. I generally just google for anything I don't already have a bookmark for.

    7. No clue on lore.

    8. My FC and my one LS are both specific communities, not general purpose things I can invite anyone to. Feel free to add me to your friends list, though.

First off, you can "edit" your post to get around the 1000 character limitation (I didn't know this when I first started either).

    To your questions:

    - Your race and the God that you worship have, to my knowledge, negligible impact on your class. I believe the devs said that by end game, it would be less than a 1% difference. Translation: don't worry about it.

    - The main quest line will force you to go to the other cities, and will supply the means to do so. Just focus on getting through the main storyline (along with your class questline) and realize that it will happen. Don't worry about missing anything, there's no avoiding it.

    - To my knoweldge, you can't obtain scrolls or drops for additional abilities/spells. The only kind of "hidden" abilities/spells are from your Job, which you will unlock when you get your primary class to lvl 30 and your secondary class to lvl 15 (the game will notify you of this though, again, it's not something you will miss).

    - It's going to be somewhat gear dependent, but, you should be able to take on any standard enemy within 2-3 levels of your class. Sometimes you can even take on enemies that are 5-6 levels above your own, depending on your class and the enemies attack style. By the time you hit lvl 50, there shouldn't be any enemy that you can't solo, outside of bosses (dungeon and some FATE bosses)

    - I'm a tank and there are a lot of great guides in the Tank section of the boards. I'd guess there are great healer guides in the healer section, but I don't know of any in particular, sorry.

    - The game does a pretty good job of explaining lore as you progress through the main story.

    - Check the Gilgamesh subthread. I'd invite you to my LS, but, I'm on the Leviathan server so that wouldn't really work.

    Good luck!

Oh, and a general rule of thumb is... if you see someone doing some general activity that you can't do (riding a mount or digging for buried treasure, for example), and you want to know how to do it... the answer is almost always "play through the main story quest line". Pretty much everything is unlocked as you progress through it. The only real exception to this are a few dungeons that are unlocked by certain NPC's, but you will figure that out as you go along.

Pharazons explains many nuances in playing the WHM in a very good set of videos. Leveling is generally not a problem, and you can do well simply by following the story. Use the tricks offered by Pharazon as you need them, keeping in mind his tutorials are intended for WHM who have reached Lv50, although he briefly touches on lower levels from time to time.

    Macros
There are other dungeon guides, but I don't think you need them now. Consider browsing through the directory if you're interested.

    Have fun!

    Welcome to Eorzea.

It seems most your questions have already been answered. If you really want to enhance your experience and knowledge with the game's lore, I recommend engaging NPCs in Small Talk and reading their little speech bubbles. FFXIV was intended for more casual players, so you have to actually go through the effort of learning the in-depth portions of the lore,

    Or y'know.. there's always the internet. :P

    1. The number of Lv.50 classes/jobs you have says nothing about your skill.
    2. FATEs are responsible for the majority of Lv.50 "derps".
    3. Don't blame a healer if you died in red zones; that was all on you.
    4. As a healer, healing is your top priority; DPSing comes second.
    5. As a tank, your healer can only keep you alive for so long; avoid red zones, too.
    6. As a DPS, you're partially responsible for hate management, too.
    7. Don't belittle newbs for their lack of skill or knowledge; you were one of them once.

Thank you all for the speedy and informative responses, it is much appreciated. (especially about the editing posts to remove the character limit) I will definitely check out the guides provided and interact more with npc's.

If there is something I didn't question that anyone thinks I should know early on please feel free to post it here to let me know ^_^ and again anyone on the Gilgamesh server who is low level or doesn't mind partying with a low level please shoot me a tell "Malakye Haynes"

    Thank you everyone :3

    Welcome to Eorzea!

The only thing i'd add to what was said is to be sure you do the Main Story quests. These will unlock many of the game's features (airship travel at 15, retainers at 17, mounts at 20, etc.) without which you do not want to play. The main story quests will also take you basically everywhere in the world and expose you to all sidequests as well.
