Crazy Unprecidented Latency

Hey, I'm from Australia so I don't expect good latency. But when I re-subscribed to FFXIV I was frustrated to find that I was experiencing upwards of 1500ms both inwards and outwards (albeit such bad latencies are seldom combined). I tried looking into latency fixing programs and router settings but nothing seemed to work. Eventually I decided to ping the data-centre's IP address, and to my shock I got 276ms.



Is the client not functioning properly? If I can connect to the data-centre with 276ms why am I getting an accumulated 2 seconds of latency? As a tank this has caused me to retract from doing any dungeons even though I need to do them to progress through the story.
