Lost in the levels!

Hey everyone! I am a level 42 Warrior, also a level 46 Botanist. My next fieldcraft leves are in Mor Dhona, but they will not unlock for me. The Levemate has a red lock, and message says I must be Disciple of War or Magic, Level 45. My boyfriend is a Monk, level 42, and unlocked MorDhona at Level 40.
When I go to my "Character", and look at the gear sets list(s); the level number in parenthesis to the right of the character is totally off! I thought it might be an average of gear level, but for example, I checked on both my Goldsmith and my Armorer (level 50 now); they have the top gear available for their class. For both, the number that shows in parenthesis is Lv. 34.
My Warrior/Marauder are level 42, the gear list shows level 34. Botanist is level 46, gear list shows level 39.
After nearly half a million gil, I have concluded it is NOT the gear I am wearing. So... my question is...
what in heck IS it????

Originally it was the lvl of your main weapon, however it got changed in 2.1 to ilvl. However any old profiles did not convert over! Only new ones appear as ilvl.

Before 2.1, the number in parenthesis was the iLvl of whatever was equipped as your main weapon/tool.

For example, my gear set says DRG (Lvl. 90) 'cause the set was created before 2.1 and I'm using my Gae Bolg Zenith (iLvl. 90). If I were to add the same set anew, now it would say DRG (iLvl Avg. 81), showing what my avg iLvl is.

Updating a pre-2.1 set with new gear won't change the number in parenthesis anymore, you have to create a new set hope that answered your question

About the Gearset tags, you can just right-click the gearset you want to tinker with and change its name if it bothers you. No need to create an entirely new gearset.

For the leve's you need to unlock them by doing pre-leve quest, this unlocks when you have a melee or caster class (disciple of war or magic) at lvl 45. Complete that pre quest and your leve's for both war and magic as well as disciples of the land will unlock.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I'm still confused on one point; my boyfriend cannot remember HOW he did it, but he did unlock the leves at MorDhona at (Disciples of War) level 40. Anybody else managed this? Remember how?? Thanks again, all!
