Anyway, I'd rather see teleporting be done away with and Chocobo porters be made the number one form of transportation. Kind of like WoW does with flight paths (I know, I mentioned WoW, don't shoot me). But I feel that this way you are made aware that you are actually in a large world. Not to mention you can just relax and enjoy the scenery.
As it is, Choco porters are pretty useless apart from when you need the toilet and need to go to a place with no Aetherite.
    Made me lol IRL.

But yea, I can see your point 100 %. I wouldn't mind if they took away teleporting either now that I think about it. I'm kind of neutral on the teleporting. MY main focus is making zones feel less like you're being squeezed into a small map.

I am part of a wonderful FC called One Hit Knock Out <OHKO>. This isn't about not feeling there are other players around because I certainly feel their presence and can and do interact with other players. The downside is that it feels like I'm not playing a massive morpg. It feels instanced, small, claustrophobic, feels like im being tunneled from place to place with no room to breathe. I literally go from one side of a town to another side of that same town and that's one half of the map.

I.E: It's like each map is centered on a "town"... yet that "town" takes up so much area. It's like i'm playing in a medium sized country landscape filled with farms and each farm makes up a lot of the landscape. The free area is small and is mainly used for travelling... not exploring.

    Well, that's my view.

Here is the flaw with this, SE isn't forcing you to use teleport, that is your choice. You could just as easily ride a Chocobo to the location but instead take the easy way out. Then you come to forums to inform SE you don't like this feature....

No, SE isn't forcing you to teleport. But, who in their right mind, when a convenience is available to them, is going to deliberately take the long way? ^^

Some other games I've played did not have so many and so frequent teleport locations, and quests involved exploring large areas to find something.

You're rather missing his point and just trying to nitpick on a specific

I don't think you understand what I was trying to say here. I wasn't complaining about teleport at all. In fact, I am neutral about it. It's useful but I can see why people wouldn't want it.

I'm not saying I don't enjoy travel... I do... but the world feels small. Even if I choose to mount up and go from zone to zone, it feels claustrophobic.

I don't mind the instanced zones or teleporting. It is nice having a large, near seamless world like WoW, but plenty of MMOs use the instancing methods that FFXIV does - Tera and Phantasy Star being my favorites that used instancing. I hate travel more than the small areas - so much so that I almost quit the game when the millionth quest sent me back to the waking sands. I just logged out and every time I was about to log in I remembered I had to go to the waking sands, and did something else. It took over 2 weeks before I logged back in.

Questing is like participating in an Old Spice Commercial - Talk to me, talk to him, talk to me, talk to him, Now Talk To Me...Sadly, you are not done, back to him, look there, its that mob I never liked, back to me, back to him...I'm in the Waking Sands.

I think this could partially be solved by not having an Aetheryte around every corner... Maybe cutting the number in half so while it is still convenient to travel to places, it takes just a bit longer to get to others instead of having an instant teleport to just about anywhere you want to go.. Also, expanding the zones, even in the slightest, would be a very welcome change. I think as we get new areas to explore and they "tweak" the existing zones we have (sort of like Mor Dhona how they "expanded" it because the Scions were moving in) this feeling of claustrophobia would lessen. In general, because it is so easy to travel everywhere, having to run around the tiny zones becomes more of an annoyance than an adventure. It makes it seem as if stuff is just there to be in your way rather than suck you in to the environment and create immersion. This is just how I feel, anyway.. As I just stated in another thread, bring back the sense of adventure! Make the areas larger!

MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. That just means there is a massive number of players and doesn't say anything about the world itself.

That being said, yeah, the zones are rather small. PS3 limitations, probably.

Unfortunately the zones sizes are mostly dictated by the Playstation 3's lack of memory and overall processing power, although for the most part the memory constraints.

(If you're unaware of how Memory works, its essentially where short-term data is dumped or loaded in from your disk drive (Textures, Text, Sounds, Animations, Battle Algorithim Processing) all the data that consantly changes "flows" through memory which is why MMOs use an INSANE amount of memory).

MMOs require a monstrous amount of memory to run due to the constantly changing/updating data, the decision to section off zones was one done early on in the design procedure most likely to accommodate the PS3.

You could double the size of the zones but they'd lack in details, you'd be forever trying to find way to fill in detail whilst maintaining a decent performance on the Playstation 3.

    This really was something they had to compromise on sadly, HOWEVER;

In the future should PS3 support drop you would see some huge changes where-in the PS3 held the game back in terms of the games ; UI, Graphics, Zone Sizes and their complexity.

Approximatley 512 (if not less) in system memory is not a lot for a modern MMO, the fact they have a fully funcitoning and playable MMO on a PS3 is nothing short of gobsmacking, even if its beaten down to hell and back, laggy, buggy and a sore on the eyes it still works and it's made this game a lot of money and long-term players (A lá PS4 release)

Actually the world in 1.0 was seamless for each region, even though they were broken down into sub-zones but did not require loading screen. Doubt the dev team will change it back.
