The thing is, when an MMO comes out with all these classic MMO features ( gigantic open world, open pvp, super grindy leveling system) people complain about it and it flops. I think part of the reason they went the small map rout is because it helps with optimization, and they are catering to the masses ( they really cant afford any risky mistakes with this game). I personally think this game feels quite MMO like, as far as what MMOs have become.

You do know that it's your choice to teleport right? I spent a large portion of early game running and choco-porting everywhere! That was my choice. I felt that was the best way to experience Eorzea and all of its fullness and detail.

The result of spending so much time doing that is that I grasp the size the of the world in a much more tangible way. It IS a large world, full of minute details. I hate to be 'that guy' but the stop and smell the roses approach really is beneficial for FFXIV. Everything is so fast paced and instant that it'll all whip by you if you're not paying attention.

    Just my two cents.

Yes. I'd pay my sub again if they reverted the black shroud.

    1) Strangely, other companies like Bethesda don't seem to have this problem. Zoning inside a town is okay (in my opinion), but in free wilderness...
    2) And even if - nobody forced SE to release the game for a potentially platform which has been known to be dying and being replaced since 3 years. Reminds me a lot of releasing FF XII for the PS2 when the PS3 was already out.

A little too late for that my friend. Lol. They did that when they made this a theme park. Lol.

Eh but it is what it is. Discussing it on the forums really isn't going to change much now is it?

That was my point. Theme park MMOs are not risky because people are use to them. Sure a minority detest the same old theme park crap we've been getting, but really most people want the same crap repackaged.

Yeah, sure, lets go back to the old The Black Shroud is a series of tubes and takes up a lot more space on the map than there actually is to explore, it was basically the sylph lands with a smaller tileset and a lot more tunnels. Ugh, no thank you.

You have the game you want, I don't, so I guess you win.

I did play 1.0, it had it's high points, but the lack of tile sets and the sheer sameness of everything was not one of those, the black shroud literally was just repeating tunnels/corridors with very little to no exploration value.

So, I guess if having smaller but actually detailed maps(though, they are only smaller in the fact that they are no longer seamless zones with each other) means I won in some way, cool, at least it has some exploration value now.
