You know, I don't mind the zones. I'm used to them from ff11. What annoys me is the lack of comradeship in the game. It seems like the developer team did everything possible to make this a solo game.
For instance:
Protect is party only. So no friendly players dropping one on you as they pass.
I believe stoneskin is similar.
Story quests are single player only. I'm not saying that they are too hard but what if you have a friend you want to play with? Well the development team pretty much said "Nope, not going to happen. Just meet up for the story dungeons."
You can't even toss a heal on someone who is dying if they happen to be on a Levequest.
They've made it where we all are forced to live in our separate worlds until lvl 50. Then we're allowed to play with others.
No more cast bars for Bard! Thank you, Yoshi-P! All hail our lord and savior!
Bet you same as me have not done Odin, Behemoth, Crystal Tower, join a FC, making static groups for coil and do hm/ex primal. Or do fun thing in Mor Dona. What part does not feel like MMO?
Here is the flaw with this, SE isn't forcing you to use teleport, that is your choice. You could just as easily ride a Chocobo to the location but instead take the easy way out. Then you come to forums to inform SE you don't like this feature....When I travel outside, I turn around and see the borders, which makes it even more claustrophobic... and then I know what I see is where I can go so it's like... "oh quest isn't here" ok teleport! Literally my quest completion so far has been majority of the time: teleport to aether -> talk to NPC in room in city -> teleport to other aether... lather rinse repeat.
No, SE isn't forcing you to teleport. But, who in their right mind, when a convenience is available to them, is going to deliberately take the long way? ^^
Some other games I've played did not have so many and so frequent teleport locations, and quests involved exploring large areas to find something.
You're rather missing his point and just trying to nitpick on a specific![]()
I don't think you understand what I was trying to say here. I wasn't complaining about teleport at all. In fact, I am neutral about it. It's useful but I can see why people wouldn't want it.
I'm not saying I don't enjoy travel... I do... but the world feels small. Even if I choose to mount up and go from zone to zone, it feels claustrophobic.

I don't mind the instanced zones or teleporting. It is nice having a large, near seamless world like WoW, but plenty of MMOs use the instancing methods that FFXIV does - Tera and Phantasy Star being my favorites that used instancing. I hate travel more than the small areas - so much so that I almost quit the game when the millionth quest sent me back to the waking sands. I just logged out and every time I was about to log in I remembered I had to go to the waking sands, and did something else. It took over 2 weeks before I logged back in.
Questing is like participating in an Old Spice Commercial - Talk to me, talk to him, talk to me, talk to him, Now Talk To Me...Sadly, you are not done, back to him, look there, its that mob I never liked, back to me, back to him...I'm in the Waking Sands.
I think this could partially be solved by not having an Aetheryte around every corner... Maybe cutting the number in half so while it is still convenient to travel to places, it takes just a bit longer to get to others instead of having an instant teleport to just about anywhere you want to go.. Also, expanding the zones, even in the slightest, would be a very welcome change. I think as we get new areas to explore and they "tweak" the existing zones we have (sort of like Mor Dhona how they "expanded" it because the Scions were moving in) this feeling of claustrophobia would lessen. In general, because it is so easy to travel everywhere, having to run around the tiny zones becomes more of an annoyance than an adventure. It makes it seem as if stuff is just there to be in your way rather than suck you in to the environment and create immersion. This is just how I feel, anyway.. As I just stated in another thread, bring back the sense of adventure! Make the areas larger!
MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. That just means there is a massive number of players and doesn't say anything about the world itself.
That being said, yeah, the zones are rather small. PS3 limitations, probably.
