I still don't understand why everyone is so hung up over having jump in this game. This isn't World of Warcraft and it should try to emulate it either. There is no area I've seen in this entire game that jump would benefit me moving around in - in fact it'd probably make it frustrating.

Just forget about jump, there are way more pressing matters in this game. Like Taru_TwoPoint0 said if you want a game with jump, go play one with jump.

Because having the ability to jump is going to save the game. Oh please.

This probably deserves it's own thread, but...

If anyone has noticed 2 major things with XIV and XIII-2 it should be this:

In both games, SE is making changes that customers want.

This in itself speaks large volumes, and it will shape the future of Final Fantasy. Even though FFXIII was a financial success, it was not a critical success. When their flagship series takes huge plummet as it did with XIV, you knew things had to change. The concept of listening to what the customer wants is fairly new to Final Fantasy. Up until this point, it has always been a concept created by the designers, and given to us to love or hate. Until now, that idea has worked, letting the creative juices flow unhindered benefited the series.

Somewhere along the way, it was dictated that SE knows that we wanted, and it could be done without the series creator. It could be done without Amano designs, or Uematsu's music. Now SE is so determined to make things different, they forgot about what gave FF it's charm. Now they are forced to adapt the series for a new generation, and they are having trouble doing so. If they are to remain a player, they must remain a pioneer, and not just graphically because those Hi-Def standards have already been met by them. They must be inventive in their game-play, and their story telling. If anyone has played The World Ends With You, they should know that SE can still do it. It is one fantastic game, full of great game-play and an emotional story left for interpretation. If I were them, I would examine why that game was such a critical success. I've not heard many talk poorly of it, a sleeper hit for sure.

You can only wow people with graphics once per generation, after that you need something more. FFXIII was late to the HD game, coming in 2010. This meant that it didn't have the graphics bang that SE had probably hoped for to push the boundaries. To combat this, they must do it with game-play and story telling as the line between graphics and reality become blurred. After that it's up to the art direction, storytelling, and game-play choices.

Raise the bar, come up with something different and fun while maintaining your standards, and you will have your Final Fantasy fans back. Most of us are not far away.

Also sorry for my rant, it went on a bit as the thoughts came running in.

The mods should sticky one jump thread and lock all the others.

This is getting WAY out of hand.

I thought this was a thread about SE's financial losses negatively affecting this game's further development... Come to find out it was a jump thread again... odd.

Also, and maybe it's just me, but the prose the OP used seemed to read a lot like the junk e-mails I get about Viagarara pillls for big discount and then there is junk text that doesn't make sense and is totally disconnected from the topic of the e-mail and then it comes back around to the name of another cheap ultra discount medication.

Probably answered, but since when could you freely jump in XIII-2? All i've seen are qte events and puzzles.

If they ever implement jump they should make it more engaging, and not just throw it out there for people to just use when they feel like it....

For instance, pressing the ["jump key"] + [direction] would make a character dash or dodge out of the way to avoid an obstacle (I'm assuming future fight mechanics will be more dynamic), or ["jump key] + [attack ability] would turn your attack into an empowered jump attack, etc.

This would require a complete rebuilding of not just geography collision but the entire battle system as well. And for what? Its not necessary for this game at all. It's just a stupid fetish that a few very persistent forumites won't let die. Besides, quite a few classes wear heavy armor.. how realistic or immersive is it to see them jumping around?

Face it, this game was never designed for jumping characters. If it ever does become implemented, it will be a superficial and useless animation (hopefully a client-side only emote).

If jumping is a deal-breaker for you, I suggest you quit the game now and spare yourself the inevitable disappointment.
