How could I forget the first time? I got the Collector's Edition on the first day of release at Gamestop in California. I put the game in my reader and clicked load and nothing happened. I read the specs again more carefully and my entire computer was too old. So I went to work upgrading and finally cobbled together a minimal system. Tried again and the CD drive froze. I went to the internet to update my driver and my internet quit. I searched my disks for a CD driver and put that in and there was an awful noise and my computer exploded! Literally! It sounded like a stick of dynamite going off. I had bits of plastic in my hair and my ears were ringing. The room was full of smoke and more was pouring out of my computer. Smelled awful. When I was sure there was no permanent damage to me, I salvaged the FFXIV stuff and scratched my head. It took a month to pick out a new computer that I was sure would run the game and get the upgrades I needed. It was probably two months before everything was set up and I tried to get the game running. I still had a virgin copy of windows so it still didn't run. It was several days before I got DirectX and everything working. Then the game wouldn't load because Norton antivirus was blocking it. Took a while to figure out that is what was going on. Finally I loaded it and it took two days to get ity running. Then I realized I needed a controller to play better so I had to get and install one. Installing stuff in those old machines was not easy. Reinstall to get the game controller to work. I was spending all of my free time on FFXIV, LOL. And still hadn't played! So I got a pizza and a case of coke and tried it. It blew away XI in graphics and player controls. The graphics were awsome. And someone stole my computer! It was some time before I got a new computer. Long enough that my account was deactivated, I think, or I just signed in wrong, because I lost all my previous characters... two of them. I didn't start over from scratch until last year. I am still addicted to it. Can't wait for the new Rebirth.

BTW the first thing I really did was fish. I knew how to fish from XI so that is what I did for months.

I remember it was brand new and no one wanted to be mages.. Like usual. XD.
So I went CNJ then THM.
It was not easy.
GUI was laggy and made little sense, transportation was.. {HuH?!}
XP was horrible, parties were virtually non-existent.
I like to think I had a hand in changing that. I shouted everyday in towns and organized people, made things happen.
It was a dirty job, but someone had to do it. XD
It's like being a virtual settler, trying to bring a world to life..

I was actually scared of picking of crafting leves because I thought I had to gather mats for them...20 levels later, regrets ;.;

I remember! My very first character was a Hyur girl named Juno Harbarre, and I remember how she looked too, even though I just played with her for a couple of days.
I started out in Limsa, and really liked the way she lifted her head from her knees in the cutscene aboard the ship, while a voice said "Hear, feel... etc." And then how well the music fit the cutscene with Leviathan.
After that, I remember running around outside Limsa, fighting bats for air shards, and fighting alongside some random guy. Who said to me: "You know, you're my first friend in this game." We were all fresh starters at that point, I lost contact with that guy after rerolling on a different server.

Oh yes, and I remember crafting for the first time. I didn't understand that some recipes required a higher lvl to succeed, and went for the tough stuff at lvl 1. lol.... It botched time after time, until I got so frustrated I vented in chat, something about what a horrible crafting system it was that failed all the time. XD
