BRD was extremely fortunate and by some miracle SE made all of their mythology-bought armor incredibly well-statted (it all has crit rate+) so don't hesitate about grabbing some pieces when you can.

A lot of people buy the legs first because it is a large upgrade with great stats and Allagan legs for BRD don't drop until turn 5, but I believe there is a chart going around on the forums and apparently the Bard's Ringbands are supposed to be the most efficient use of mythology stones for a first purchase. However, this is only the case if you are going from Darklight to the myth gloves as the CT gloves are very very nice and the jump from CT to Myth gloves is a lot smaller.
