Maps are unique, so you can only hold one at a time. But you can place them on retainers, and mail them to friends to make room for gathering more. Then when you teleport to the camps, people can talk to the mail moogle to grab them.

Any DOL 40 or higher can get a map. On MNR or BTN the type of map will be shown before you gather it.
All you need to do is go to where level 40 or higher nodes are and gather until you a map appears on the list of gathering items.
And yes, you need to be able to gather from at least level 40 nodes for the lowest level map.
Not directly. If you try to gather a specific type that you already have, as in say you already have a Boarskin and try to gather another, you will get a message saying you cannot gather that one. You can have one of each type on you. You can also only have 1 deciphered at a time. Can you hold onto more then one of the same map? Someone said you can't. Like I was gonna hold onto 2-3 days worth of 8 man maps and get a FC group together for them.
You can, however, put them on retainers or mail to friends to get around this limit. I will sometimes put them at auction for an insane price just to get it out of my inventory because my retainers are full. If it sells, I make a ridiculous amount of gil. If not, it's there when I need it.

has anybody soloed a pestiskin map I came close to doing it at the kobold camp but loss due to pets turning to stone from mob. I was smn by the way with pet & companion out.
I get my BTN Pieste maps from right outside Forgotten Springs. 3 Times in a row it was up on first node (I was full at the time)
So when I finally got a group to do them and come back to refill It doesn't show up in time that I wanted it to so I settled for the solo ones

Thanks for the information.. can we restrict these things anymore =/ Oh well... we have a ton of gatherers picking these up so i'll pass the word around to the ones who dont know. granted im gathering both types of 50 maps because my hubby wants the tonberry.
also is the 18 hour cooldown on finding a map true? >_>

yes the cool down is true.

That's because the level 50 maps from fishing are location specific.
From the patch notes:
Timeworn Toadskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (South Umbral Isles and Rathefrost only)
Timeworn Boarskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Reaver Hide and the Tangle only)
Timeworn Peisteskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Lake Tahtotl, Parata's Peace, and the North Shards only).

ok i thought it was i was just making sure (otherwise im sure we'd see a million more bluebirds haha).
The easiest location to get to for maps on Botanist is just outside of Limsa. Go out the Zephyr Gate to Middle La Noscea, and there's a level 50 logging area a short trip NW just past the first bridge.
If you've only got Miner, there are level 50 quarrying nodes just north of Swiftperch (east of Aleport) in Western La Noscea. In fact, I just got a Peisteskin map confirming the location.![]()
