Contrary to the Live Letter, you can only have ONE undeciphered map on you, of any given type, at a time. Each map has the Unique tag, so you cannot get a second Timeworn Peisteskin Map until you Decipher the first, or get the first out of your main inventory.

You can only have ONE deciphered map on you. Once you Decipher a map, you have to either find the chest, or discard the map, before you can decipher another one.

So, all told, you can have a maximum of SIX maps on you : one Timeworn of each type, plus one deciphered map in your Key Items.

Add in your retainers, who can also hold one of each type, and you are looking at 16 maps, 3 of each type plus the one deciphered. IMO its easier to just mail maps to a trusted friend, there are more mail moogles in the world, more widely scattered about, than there are retainer bells.
