Idea to Help New Players Be Able to Enjoy Cutscenes

I've noticed a lot of people that join Duty Roulette Main Scenario are still adamant about new players skipping their cutscenes despite the whole feature introduced as a tool to aid new players in completing content.

    So here's a possible solution:

If running a dungeon or main scenario instance for the first time, add a dialogue box during instance loading or even a checkbox on the duty commence confirmation asking whether or not the player wants to view cutscenes, outlining that cutscenes can be viewed again at later time in the inn. If the player chooses yes, this should disable the ability to skip cutscenes for everyone in the instance and hold the players until everyone has completed the cutscene.

    This should accomplish two things:
It should keep everyone at the same pace in the dungeon and avoiding the risk of locking a new player out of a boss area for enjoying the game's story at the pacing and situation intended by the scenario designers.

In addition it should in theory reduce the amount of the type of player who queue the Duty Roulette solely for their own benefits from the daily bonus, whom have no patience or respect for other players who prefer to enjoy the full experience the game offers.

It's important that this "view cutscenes" flag be presented only to first-time runs of dungeons and content as there are unfortunately those among the community whom would use such a feature to repeatedly cause inconvenience to others.

I'm sure there are many in the forum community that may disagree with this idea as a possible solution, so please share your thoughts on how to best address the "skip cutscenes" attitude among the player community. Since, at least in my eyes, it's becoming apparent that trusting everyone to "play nice" is not an effective solution.

+1 for letting people watch the CS.

The dev team put a lot of hard work into these great story arcs and CS moments. Let the player enjoy them.

oh, and to those players who grief group-mates for watching CS, F-U!

You would basically be adding a button that says "do you want to play with experienced players or players who have never done this dungeon?" Guess what everyone will choose. New players will never find a group, which destroys the purpose of duty roulette.

I'm not one of those people who say "it never happened to me so it must never happen" folks but all the runs I've done people have been extremely courteous to people wanting to watch cutscenes. In fact, the only time I ever missed a battle because I was watching a cutscene was when someone got knocked back into the arena by a monster thingy.

I think the commendation system has done a lot to encourage people to be pleasant and I'd like them to go more in that direction. Better rewards, ability to give out more commendations, etc.

This is why there is no choice given to people that join by Duty Roulette.

If I understand the matching system correctly, new players queue the dungeon from their quest in the Duty Finder and are matched by participants in the Duty Roulette. It is only the new player that queues from this method and only on the first completion that the flag be presented.

Basically it introduces a risk to experienced players that queue Duty Roulette that they may have to sit through cutscenes. Thus, keeping away those who deem Duty Roulette to be unworthy of their time if they have to wait on cutscenes, and matching new players with the more patient players who don't mind watching the cutscenes to reap the Duty Roulette bonuses.

It's true, I do agree that the commendation system has definitely helped with encouraging nice and respectful behaviour, and definitely was a step in the right direction. However, in the examples of players I've seen that insist others skip cutscenes, they seem to have missed the point of the commendation system as well, believing it to be an commendation for job well done rather than for recognition of having been amicable and helpful.

Then we'll have cutscene watchers who complain about others watching cutscenes too slow and ruining their experience.

I would certainly sign up for cs focused runs. I was forced, politely at least, to skip my own cutscenes in praetorium. And I'm sorry watching them in the inn room does not even come close to the emotional highs and lows you experience by actually being there and fighting the bosses.

I did Duty Roulette the other day and we had a new guy watching CS's in castrum. Some guy told him to skip them and watch in the inn, I told him to STFU and let him watch them. CM/praet aren't speed runs anymore.

Seems every time I do DR for story as a tank, I have to make it a point that I'm not pulling bosses while people who need are watching cutscenes, or otherwise trying to catch back up with the pt.
