I believe they have stated that the DX11 version would be released 6 months after the PS4 release, meaning that since the PS4 version is coming out in April, we will likely see the DX11 version entering Beta in August and releasing in October.

i use nvidia surround setup with SLI gtx 770´s and i have far bigger issues on DX9 than i would have with DX10 even 11. the game needs it and people talk about how other issues comes first, well most issues comes from the fact that the game runs DX9 for example, the game runs slow for me and thats just because the direct x 9 holds my gpu backthey should work on this and implement it asap, not focus on revamping the game for ps4, who cares :X
As I recall the official reason we don't have higher res textures is because we are already using the maximum size textures that directx 9 supports. Directx 11 was to allow us access to higher resolution textures.what a lot of people don't know is even XI's engine could handle such large textures. The reason it doesn't have them all over the place is purely because of memory limitations. Yes the PC has plenty (and they should have offered an upgraded texture pack on the PC) but on the PS2 they had to conserve memory wherever possible.
Doubtful. The ps4 has 4 gigs of memory available to the game. Memory was the limiter in FFXI and FFXIV both. The primary limitation is pretty much gone.

I want to say that YP already mentioned that the DX11 version would be a while after the PS4 version. Think of the PS4 version as the DX11 testbed.
No, no, people claim magical "PS3 Limitations" to explain why FFXIV can't do what FFXI (a 2001 PS2 game) can do, so we'll see "PS4 limitations" when it comes to SE simply not wanting to do something.
Also, the actual limitation of FFXI was the hard drive space more so than memory - when they increased the HDD requirement they gave us a new expansion and continue to the update the game monthly and even adding quite a lot of new systems which if memory was the main limiter, we would have capped off with FFXI by WotG per design.
PCs have limitless memory yet PC only MMOs still remain pretty limited and dull overall.
I seem to recall them saying that DX11 update won't bring better textures, but more lighting effects.
Ya ><.

Yoshida, PC gamers with high resolution monitors can see the difference. New CT gear has some texture without anti aliasing so they look jagged when you zoom in to your character. Most textures with anti aliasing effect looks blurry. High resolution textures will add more detail definition.GW: How’s the texture resolution?
Yoshida: We have no plans to change the resolution. I explained this before, but current games are not built on resolutions any more. For photo realistic effect the quality of normal map, for sculpt model it will depend on the amount of time spent, and for the quality seeing how realistic you can get the engravings to show by shining realistic light. These are the kind of things we need to tackle down. There are things which uses really low texture resolutions, but I think, you won’t be able to tell that it was even used. Game structure like the “previous FFXIV” are the only one that required resolution to fight, therefore I don’t think around resolutions.
Personally I think adding tessellation to remove those straight lines that should be curved such as on my character hands, ears, hair and face is more important.

Yep, not sure why people think DX11 is going to transform this game into something else, it's still going to be the ARR we know and (love/hate) today. Textures will still be very low res (zoom in on some and see how pixilated they get) and allow for some better environmental effects maybe, not that the world has any meaning...
The gameplay will largely remain untouched since what they can do with DX11 they can do now in terms of it, for example we won't get new jobs just because they release DX11 or anything.
I would like to also see some of the issues like clipping taken care of. For example the bard chapeau and the artimis bow clip majorly
i just want dx11 so that my gpu's are utilized. dx 9 is so crap and sucking on all my cpu
