So we won't get to level our new jobs?? Total bummer.. Starting to not wanna play this game. The direction it seems to be going is down the drain.Jobs won't have levels and as such won't need to be leveled up. Jobs are an advanced form of the class that unlocks them. So for example purposes, a level 50 Gladiator would be a level 50 Paladin. (Example only!)
Also we can confirm that we'll be changing the term "ranks" (as in rank 50 Pugilist) to "levels" (as in level 50 Pugilist) along with the removal of the physical level. We'll also be changing skill points to experience points.
In summation:
Rank > Level
Skill points > Experience points
I was so excited for the new jobs.. :\

they wont really be new jobs, they will be a job specilization of current jobs, what you want is new classes(which in the new system should each have a specialization). aka new content, which in all honesty the game really really needs. its going to be almost a year with virtually the same content.
So in short, it's like in FFI: Warrior -> Knight, Thief -> Ninja, Monk -> Master etc. Works for me at least.
Yes I know they are jobs in classic FF, what I am saying is according to your exemples, thief would become ninja and monk would become master.
In FFXIV CLASS -> JOBS, so Thief and Monk in your exemple would need to be classes, and they are not, they are not in other FF and they are not in FFXIV, they might be Jobs (Pug -> Monk) or jobs that will come later, but they are not classes as of right now.
Yes, they did in FFI.
The jobs I mentioned were an example. Jobs I mentioned didn't have anything to with FFXIV. Point of my post was that the system is similar:
FFI
Warrior -> Knight, Thief -> Ninja, Monk -> Master etc.
FFXIV
Gladiator -> [something], Pugilist -> [something] etc.

I like it, i much prefer EXP/Level.

I'm completely against starting a 'specialization' at 50, or even 30. If I want to be a specific job, I want to start it from the very beginning.
What is going on here?

I am kind of happy, I don't want to level everything up separately. With all of the current classes in the game, and thinking of the potential classes in the game, to have to level them up in addition to jobs, completely separately would be an enormous time sink. If there was more variation in the areas/styles you could level up then I would feel a little better if I had to level them all up one by one, but that is not the case.
If classes had to be leveled up in addition to jobs, I would want to level them up at the same time at least. Kind of like how you level up and rank up at the same time (or gain skill and experience points at the same time). I would have wanted it so if I was a White Mage and had a Conjurer weapon equiped, I would skill/rank/level up on them both at the same time.
This may make some players unhappy, but every decision SE will ever make will impress some and disappoint others. I am personally happy with this, happy that at least I don't have to level everything one by one in the same area over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. And over. I already have to do that with Classes.
