And you know all this because you've already played with the new jobs.At first glance, this system seems like a desperate slap-stick way to implement a job system.
In the example, the "Paladin" job is nothing more than a title and some extra skills on top of the Gladiator class. So why not just rename 'Gladiator' to 'Paladin' and make those same skills unlockable via a quest?
Lets say that GLD can open multiple jobs like PLD and RDM... does that mean that putting further levels into GLD will result in gains in both jobs that are unlocked??
Many traditional FF jobs are a combination of skills found in the current classes. How could a job like DRK be a natural outgrowth of just MRD or THM? It should require both.
This approach seems both rushed in it's implementation and limited in its potential. I hope they seriously reconsider the linking of Jobs and Classes; or better yet just dump the whole class concept and change to a full Job system.

Kill all the classes right now, and give us the classic jobs to level up from lv. 1!!!
Implement a party system in the way too =)

I have to fully agree, from the info given I do not like where this is heading. The whole idea for the Class and Physical Level system was so you would build your own job but even before launch this idea was dropped when they changed around the dominant factors that determined you characters outlook. Physical Level was supposed to be the dominant one and then you used Classes/Weapon Specialisations to add skills to your blank slate job to create a custom one.At first glance, this system seems like a desperate slap-stick way to implement a job system.

They switched it around though before launch and made Class the dominant rank by which your character was judged, this then turned Classes into Jobs really but because they weren't designed to be Jobs they don't really work as they should on their own and just feel a bit meh.
Now SE is trying to rectify that by adding a Job on top of a Class and I really can't see the point, they may as well just change the classes to into Jobs on their own and be rid of the Weapon=Class system. Jobs learn Traits, Skills and Abilities as they Level up and you are no longer tied to a certain weapon. Weapons would be handled like in FFXI in that as you levelled them you became more proficient with them and unlocked exclusive weaponskills for the weapon.
So a WAR could wield Great Axe's and Axes and also certain Polearms, Swords and other weapons.
From the info we have been given I am starting to feel a bit nervous about this Job system and I hope it doesn't work out how I fear it will, but until we have more info we will have to wait and see I guess.

Great post dude! I agree. At first glance, this system seems like a desperate slap-stick way to implement a job system.

My understanding from what I and others have read leads to exactly what he is saying. Reread the info givin thus far about the job system maybe you wont swing and miss after going through it a few more times.

Certainly you'll be able to leve up any of these jobs from lvl 1 provided you haven't touched them thus far. Also there is already a party system, not quite sure what you mean there.

I mean be able to go and kill mobs in a camp (or moving camp, but I prefer a static one) with jobs to be able to make their role. Plus a party system that people would use. As simple as flag up. I know that already was in FFXI, and a lot of people will /rage because I'm asking for a FFXI feature but... that was simple and useful!!

i was really hopeful that the new advanced classes would be new classes you unlocked and could level to specialize your main. i was looking forward to have some new battle classes to rank up as were many other people i have talked to. my hope was with the new content and new battle system we would have a chance to try the new system with a few new classes to test the waters.
