    Caster weapon stats

Just wondering what weapon stats effect your spell damage and casting speed? I just started levelling my thaumaturge and decided to setup a parser for the first time. After getting a new level, i equipped a couple pieces of gear and a new weapon and noticed my dps had dropped from pretty consistent 15 to 11-12 and casting speed seemed to have increased (I say seemed because i didnt actually check how long each cast was before).

None of the clothing had anything but 1 or 2 extra int/vit and maybe 1 of some other secondary stat. The new weapon had 2 extra damage + 1 vit/crit and a higher delay/auto value as its all around lvl 12ish. Cant see any reason why my damage would drop, not obsessing about dps at this level but would just like to know what is happening and why.

No, all weapons have delay and auto attack regardless of class/Job, even mages - casters just don't have the 'auto attack' command mapped to their hotbar by default like melees do, you have to map it to your hotbar manually (it's listed under General in the Abilities and Traits section of the menu). Naturally though mages are physically weak and thus it's not really needed, except maybe being a slight help when soloing.

There's no need to map Auto-attack skill to the hotbar (at least not on PC version); just right-click on the target.

You don't have to map it on gamepad either, you just confirm after selecting your target.

Since no one mentioned it, even for mages "Damage" is king. If you have two weapons, the one with higher damage is better.

I'm guessing what happened was another issue besides your gear. Different targets, or you weren't sticking to your rotation as well, or something. Higher weapon damage and more intelligence WILL boost your damage as an arcanist. Also, the only stat to determine how fast you cast is spell speed, and you need a LOT of it to make a noticeable difference.
