Need help understanding guilds

i see all these new exclamations in front of the guilds around eorza but not sure as to what the guilds do persay. i am a thaumaturge and am trying to find guilds that may help me in my area...unless you can join all of them though i dont believe you can.

Each class has their own guild. Guilds help you progress with quest that reward items/skills as your class grows. You need to go to the Thaumaturge guild and speak to guild master. You have class quest every 5 levels.

You can join all of them. There are no restrictions on which classes you can level, and there are no disadvantages to joining every guild (other than carrying around tons of weapons and armor if you try to level them all).

As a Thaumaturge, you'll eventually become a Black Mage. For that, you'll need Archer (ARC) to level 15, and you'll likely eventually want to level Arcanist (ACN) for some of its cross-class skills. Before then, several classes have useful abilities. Protect, Cure, and Stoneskin from Conjurer, and Second Wind from Pugilist, are useful on pretty much any combat class you might want to level.

I looked up your info and only class you have unlocked is THM. So, you don't have Pugilist unlock. So, most likely that quest marker is for Pug.

Joining new guilds is how you unlock other classes. You can (and should!) join all of them. Only the thaumaturge guild in Ul'dah will help you directly as a thaumaturge (Make sure to head back every 5 levels for the quest), but having a diverse array of classes available gives you more options when joining groups, and you can also take advantage of cross-class skills.
