The reindeer costume goes in it, the snowman and santa costume doesn't.
The dragon kabuto's go in it, the horse and bunny doesn't.
Are these decisions made with a coin?

I agree, makes my blood boil.
No? New items won't go in until a patch. It's how the new bikinis and ghost costumes were. We couldn't store them til 2.1 hit.
Old items only go in if they are Unique/Untradeable. Like the Dream Outfit and Usagi Kabutos, they are tradeable and sellable on the market so not a "only obtainable once" item. You could get them again i the future if someone sold them or gave them to you, so those won't be storeable.
Santa costume and Bunny Kabutos were craftable in 1.0 and are still tradeable in the market boards in ARR.
Snowman costume and Horse Kabuto came after the armoire update. Should get in with 2.2
Dragon Kabutos are 2 years old.
I think it has to do with what was in 1.0 vs what is new.
The new stuff seems to be able to be put in after the first patch following the event.
I thought there was a post about this from SE but not sure what to even search on to find it.
However, I really wish they would add all untradeable green (dungeon and GC) and blue (dl) gear to the armoire.

It certainly is one of the sillier aspects of the game... I don't even get why the Inn Armoire is a thing anymore...
Personally, I wish they'd just do away with the whole thing, and give us an extra page on the Inventory Armoury Chest for event gear and the sort... Hopefully something like that comes with the Vanity system, because this gear is solely for vanity and vanity items really shouldn't be taking up inventory space; Minions and Chocobo Bardings certainly don't.
They're still seasonal gear, and only obtainable during these events unless someone holds onto them till later. And we have a tab especially for seasonal gear. Also the snowman outfit is untradable unique, and it doesn't go in the armoire either, and 2.1 went live less than a month ago. it's not like they didn't know about these events and their items. No? The point is the Armoire is for things you cannot get again. Dream Outfits and Usagi Kabutos were some of the first event items in 1.0 and none of them were ever allowed in the Armoire. Also I mentioned the snowman outfit as being NEW, such as it will be allowed in in a future patch, same as the ghost costumes. They're still seasonal gear, and only obtainable during these events unless someone holds onto them till later. a real simple fix would be to only allow one unique occurrence of any item in the armoire.
They've already got items that you cant put more than one of on your retainers
