Crafting needs to be made useful especally cooking.

Am I the only one who feels that crafting is pretty much worthless in this game? Combat jobs get all their gear from dungeons and such, never has any materia slots making the entire materia system pretty much pointless for them (with the exception of the pvp set, but your not going to do coil or something in pvp gear). Crafters cannot make anything worth equipping for lv 50 combat jobs other than a weapon thats used to make the relic.

Cooking is especally worthless as the buffs are so small they are not even noticable at all. I think they need to have 2-3x the amount of stat boost they currently do to actually be useful.

Am I the only one who feels crafters need to be made part of the combat job endgame? I was thinking along the lines of gear being dropped in parts, and you have to have a crafter of a certan skill/stat to piece it together with a special interface, also make the materials no-trade so people can't just sell them on the market.

I dunno. I do pretty well selling the food I craft and I only started leveling culinarian because I was spending way too much to buy food from others. I bought most of the mats used to level and a lot of them were not cheap. I was down to 500 gil several times between buying mats and HQ gear. Someone's making all of my money :P

Requiring people to get all their gear from crafting and no dungeon drops? Doubt it'll happen. Play a more prominent role and not be 20-25 item levels behind the best gear in the game? Would be nice, but apparently SE is scared of RMT somehow + people getting the best gear without even walking into the hard content.

Multiple ways of letting crafting play a role without letting people skip the hard dungeons, but whatever... crafting is all but sidelined at this point.

Food and potions are actually pretty useful but have certain things about them that make them a pain in the ass to create or use. For food, the shard requirement is insane (although the fact that it does not wear upon death anymore helps a ton) and for Potions, some of the mats are annoying to get ahold of and you have to deal with the medication timer when using potions.

Honestly I think culinarian got the biggest bonus post-patch. The food now is actually pretty good stat wise. The price on it is too much for me right now. I think the problem is a general crafting issue. Crafting is only needed for relic weapons so no one cares. That's a shame too.

I'm not sure I agree that food is useless, the higher tier foods adds the equivalent stats of an accessory and a half. Now imagine if everyone in your 8 man party would use food, that's hundreds of extra stats across the board. They seem profitable enough as well, my sister only just dinged 50 with her cook (her highest lvl class) and she's already sitting just shy of a million gil.

Crafting won't be useful until they let us specialize in a craft or two instead of this "everyone gets to be everything!" thing they have going on.

Dont you dare mess with my self-sufficiency, I have all 3 DoL, and 4 DoH mastered, and I'm working on the rest. I can literally make almost anything I can use, and when I'm bored I go farm mid level mats HQ stuff and put it on the AH where it usually sells pretty quickly

Heh, I bet you'd be singing a different tune if everyone was as tenacious about crafting and gathering as some of us. I think the point Melisenna was emphasizing was that, aside from the occasional dungeon, this a very single-player/solo intensive game ....... which doesn't reflect to well in the MMO genre. We need interaction and people that specialize in certain areas, whether combat or tradeskills, to grow more as a community. That's what the intended vision initially was for thse types of games, in my opinion.

Yes and No, the biggest thing I've noticed is that the few people who do make HQ stuff for lower level jobs overprice it to the point of stupidity, its really easy to HQ below lvl 40 recipes and yet people feel they can price these items for 15k+ I dropped half a dozen lvl 25 HQ helms on the board for 3k, and they sell like hotcakes
