I guess I'll just echo what's been said here.

Provoke doesn't work in FATES. Maybe what you saw was the boss already moving away from her intended area and someone vainly using Provoke, to try and bring her back.

Even if it worked and someone used Provoke, then whoever was trying to grieve, would have to keep hate on boss by constantly using Shield Lob/Tomahawk, to kite her out of the intended FATE area, or constantly using their combos while kiting, which is difficult to do.

I've seen it happen many a times when FATE grinding was hype for leveling. Even if there were no other FATE's popped up, people would teleport/leave the FATE area before the boss was dead. Then boss would randomly target someone with Void Fire spells whether they're in the area or not, as long as they engaged her at some point. Same thing would happen to Steropes. The only thing is, you don't know who the culprit is because it doesn't show who she randomly targets to cast Void Fire.

As everyone is saying. Provoking fate bosses does not work. If it happened, it was something else that caused it.

    this is all that happens.

i can confirm it too. used to do a lot of spiritbonding there, sometimes killed the adds for the last DD fate and sometimes hit the boss by accident.
then i usually go back to the post when the adds die. a few minutes later...

the boss tries to cast void fire II on me, causing her to move to the other side of the room and causing quite a humorous conversation in the shout channel.

There are other reasons to run away other than running to another FATE. There are quests that take place in that area. Maybe they thought they could get through the FATE to do their quest, and panicked when they saw/heard the I'm-being-targeted arrow. Maybe their FC suddenly needed them just as they showed up. Maybe they showed up, saw the completion bar, and thought they wouldn't get credit, so might as well leave. Maybe they zoned out on auto-run and then realized they were in the wrong place. There are dozens of reasons someone might suddenly change their mind and/or turn around.

If you've got some other evidence that they did this on purpose, OK. But if all they did was show up, get targeted, and leave, thus causing the boss to chase them, I don't see anything to indicate it was griefing.

I have gained hate playing my WHM in a full party with medica with casts over and over. So pulling hate from fate boss is easy with healers or tanks using hate things other than provoke. Even on both my tanks I have pulled hate from other tanks with right combos.

The whole thing could be simply caused by a player who pulled hate the old fashioned way and then hauled ass. So it might not have been provoke. Does that change the fact the monster ran away and reset? Come on people. Be nicer.
