I would argue it's more like paying to use a direct toll-road rather than a congested public highway that goes the long way around.

I would never pay extra for VPN/Tunnelling services. I also am EU-based and had terrible lag. There are fixes in place that may help. See my post (#41). Have you tried those? Leatrix's application in particular was very effective.

If you haven't tried those fixes yet, can you try them and respond in thread if they have been effective for you?

Complaining about it may very well cause SE to fix it, but in the meantime, why not see if you can compensate for it a bit yourself?
