I'm unsure of where to begin regarding this post. I've played quite a number of matches (currently about to ding Rank 25. I believe I am also the highest ranked player on my server or so I've been told.) and for the most part I've enountered just about every poster on this forum in the PvP sub-menu. I normally solo queue because the population on my server is near dead. I see a few people from Balmung from time to time PvP and on occassion I'll run with them. Anyhow, I run PvP as a PLD. I don't have OP DPS and rather than someone say I have a stun lock. There are other classes whom I share those "stuns" with. DRGs in particular tend to be very greedy with those stuns due to their high output of damage. I'll meet a few MNKs here and there diminishing the returns, but its semi rare they use Shoulder Tackle from my experience.
Returning to the topic aforementioned. What do you all expect of PvPers in LV50 matches? I for one, and contrary to popular belief CAN'T CARRY a PvP team. I simply can't. I can help alleviate some stress in the fight and peel/stun, but unlike PvE. PLDs can't carry. Healers do. A great healer can keep the fight in play for a very long time. I can't speak for the MRD/WAR community but I imagine they may do a little better job of a "carry" vice a paltry PLD.
For the past 2 days as I've been mind numbingly grinding PvP. I've been seeing a trend of new PvP people. Nothing wrong with being new, but first and foremost, don't blame the highest geared member of your team for a failed run or expect them to win the fight solo. If you're entering a LV50 match, get some Morale equipment. Its cheap and effective to a certain degree if using the ilvl55 set. I do not recommend running in Darklight or AF1. PvP at LV50 is pretty unforgiving if you don't come prepared or at least attempt to learn the ropes somewhat from the lower tiered brackets.
Healers: Cast Protect and Stoneskin. PvP is a different environment, and for those who say those buffs do nothing are smoking crack. Why? I've not seen any evidence stating these buffs don't help mitigate damage. When I attack another person and I am doing 0 damage. I see stoneskin absorbing damage. Whence stoneskin falls, I see protect absorbing damage too. I know of 3 healers by name who've sworn these buffs do nothing. Furthermore, if you're a scholar cast stoneskin on the party pre-fight during the 1 minute start-up. How hard is it to have a SCH cast stoneskin? Why don't they think its a necessary tool to have in the fight?
DPS: Crowd control debuffs. I know some party make-ups are stronger than others, but learn to use them. Not advocating that one should "spam, spam, spam" their debuffs. BLMs need no explanation on sleep. BRDs? How hard is it to bind? Bind is a powerful tool. Especially when you need to close the gap and/or keep a player rooted to allow the party some quick relief. DRGs use the jump stun in the event the target is trying to get away or close the gap. Numerous times have I seen a DRG start their DPS rotation with a jump stun. Nothing wrong with that, but compared to a 6 second stun...that's a huge tradeoff. MNKs? Yeah, I dunno. They just speedwalk everywhere don't they? SMNs, please don't use Titan-egi in PvP. No one wants to see a giant peanut crusted floating turd in the arena. You're making an embarrassment of yourselves.
That's my two cents. This is just a trend I've been seeing among "new" players in the LV50 matches. I don't mind losing a match and as a solo queue, I'm at the mercy of whatever the RNG gods throw at me. Sometimes I get a great team and other times I get horrid players. Its the nature of the beast. I am by no means a "crap" player. I'm sure there are a number of people here on the forums who probably recognize my name. In addition, for the PvP regulars I see in the arena thanks for the encouragement to keep grinding and great fights. See you in the arena soon.
So to the forum posters. What do you expect of your party members in the arena? I'm curious to see if there are any congruent thoughts on this matter.
